P1P1 Phalanx Leader
P1P2 Wingsteed Rider
And then not a single white card AT ALL. Guy to my right was GW, his right was WU. Needless to say, I ended up in RB.

P2P2 Had to choose again between thoughtseize and gray merchant... and took the cash. Probably not even -EV because I only eded up with 5 black permanents MD.

Got back-to-back Abhorrent Overlord mid pack 3. But never even ran the second one...

Ended up with a deck that punishes any stumbles.

// first 3-0 deck
2 satyr rambler
1 arena athlete
1 fleshmad steed
1 baleful eidolon
1 minotaur skullcleaver
1 spearpoint oread
1 blood-toll harpy
2 ill-tempered cyclops
1 disciple of phenax
1 ember swallower
1 anvilwrought raptor
1 abhorrent overlord

1 thoughtseize
1 pharika's cure
1 ordeal of erebos
3 lightning strike
1 lash of the whip
1 sip of hemlock

9 Mountain
8 Swamp

// sideboard
1 akroan crusader
2 priest of iroas
1 bronze sable
1 abhorrent overlord

2 coordinated assault
1 titan's strength
1 dragon mantle
1 portent of betrayal

I actually mained the Sable about half the time but eventually just replaced it with Whip. Having 6 removal spells and a thoughtseize is pretty boss.

Drum roll please...
I went 3-0/6-0 - my first tourney win ever. The only trouble I had was in match one I played a kid who had like 4 voyages' end and 2 griptides and literally timewalked me the the first 4-5 turns. Lucky for me he was running _7_ creatures and although he dropped me down to 3 both games I killed his unblockable voltron both times and beat him down with satyrs. The other two matches were against the Wx decks to my right and I just never let them establish a board presense. One game got a little dicey when he stabilized at 2 with arbor colossus but I eventually drew an out (sip) and won. That was from a mull to 5.

Probably the worst match up for me was my son's UB control with 2 x thassa's emissary 2 x keepsake gorgon 2 x disciple of phenax, 1x Gary and shipbreaker. Along with 4 removal and a voyages' end. He lost to the GW deck.

Oh, and we cracked a Mutavault (prize packs) and Xenegos as well.

So thanks to all of you who helped me learn to draft and play magic over the last year.

Lightning strike is indeed good.

Minor followup: This morning I got to play my son's UB deck that I was a little worried about and I crushed him in 2 games, too. Mostly just disrupted his hand with thoughtseize and disciple. He was one island away from sticking a kraken that I couldn't do much about though.

when most other removal in the set being terrible, lightning strike looks pretty good and it's versatile due to being able to hit players

All the instant burn in Theros is good, but Strike is excellent.

I love your curve. And the Cyclopi to finish things off. Congratulations.

Ofc lightning strike is good, it's a heroic enabler.

you can also combo it with necrobite or boon of erebos to trigger inspired!

Would anyone run 2 abhorrent overlords? In any deck? I guess if I had 3 returned phalanx and 2 keepsake gorgons I might.

I thought it was was sketchy running one but I figured there was some chance I got stalled and might need a finisher. I also had a Kragma Warcaller but it didn't really seem good given my one 'taur.

It would've been a different deck running two. It's a great finisher, but it doesn't look like you really needed it except when games were just going super long I guess. I don't think you have the space to be honest.
