My friend opened Mana Crypt and Chandra, Torch of Defiance same pack. we all agreed take Mana crypt for cash value.
But a healthy controversial debate sparked on social media when we put the disclaimer of Top 8 of a GP or at a Pro Tour and disregard the cash value. pretend your drafting your friends booster box and all cards go back to him if it helps.

First off, this is ridicoulous, and I'll be disappointed every time I open a Kaladesh booster and none of these cards are in it.

Otherwise, it's Chandra for me. Since you talk about picking one, it's probably draft, and you gave good reasons why Chandra is better. Crypt is great in a ramp deck, and pretty mediocre in a normal draft deck. You can't just draft higher-cost spells and hope to draw Crypt early every game, you need to draft ramp-fatties, and if the deck isn't open, you're in trouble. Chandra fits any red deck.

Ultimately, it's two bombs, and you need to decide which one fits your play style better, and which one is more likely to be played in your final product.

Kaladesh is so full of artifacts, the colorless mana is really a lot more likely to be useful than in many environments (like SoI). An opening hand with a Mana Crypt can often be a swinging Renegade Freighter or Ovalchase Dragster on T2, which could mean game over in favor of the guy you passed Crypt to before Chandra even lands.

Take the $. Even top 8 of GP, you have to factor in the EV of Chandra vs Mana Crypt - which is not even necessarily > 0. Remember you can always play mana crypt.

We just had a 6 person draft (post-pre-release) and I opened Chandra P1. I took it (No mana crypt). P3, guy to my right opened Chandra, and took it. (THis is rare-re-draft btw, but we don't re-draft Masterpeices).

I eeked out a 3-0 with some pretty lucky top decks. The other guys' chandra deck was better (RG > RB),.... but he went 0-3.

Oh man, you paper guys are crazy. Online, Crypt can be had for less than two tix, and the most expensive version ATM is less than 8 tix. So, take the dollars is definitely Chandra. That could hit 40 tix in the coming weeks.

Otherwise, with no money considerations, I'm still taking Chandra. This is not cube, where you are guaranteed crazy plays at higher rarities. Freighter hitting on two is very scary, but should be unlikely if you build your deck for consistency, as opposed to draw Crypt and win, don't draw Crypt and lose.

GP's and Pro tours have relatively terrible prize support nowadays. If I'm in a top 8 GP draft I am in the "first pick the Tarmogofy in your blue/red draft" camp for sure.

But Mana Crypt is also just an unfair card. I take that. It also doesn't lock you into red, which is always nice.
