I beat a Jace Emblem.

My GWx deck was a bit durdly and he went T4 jace into T5 Watcher in the Web nullifying my spirits.
I was basically just seeing where this was going. I honestly did not think I could win. His deck was otherwise quite durdly as well, and had a duskwatch recruiter out and generated a bunch of clues (did not have a clue engine). But my defenses were strong too, and I had earlier delirium and then drew all my payoff cards-- Soul Swallower, Obsessive Skinner AND Topplegeist. He bounced my Swallower with jace and then put it to sleep, I had just gotten geist out and made 2 spirits, thinking I could maybe turn the corner, when he plays his 2nd Watcher in the Web, and cashed in his jace for the emblem.

But he couldn't do any damage to me, and had cracked so many clues that he didn't have that many cards left. His big "win con" was Stormrider Spirit... which he later told me he had scry-mulligan'd to the bottom, so he had cycled through his whole deck with recruiter to get it. It was pretty irrelevant vs. a 4/7 reach that can block him and his 7 friends.

I just sat there and he conceded with like 9 cards in library that did nothing. I was just sitting on lands, a scarecrow, and macabre waltz just in case I needed to recover something.

I beat him soundly with a curve out in game 2.

For all that I went 1-2 in the draft, losing a close one to werewolves and getting Invocation'd in match 3.

Congrats! So...he sacced his Jace to get the Emblem? Was that necessary?

I believe he did it in a brief window where I had an active Topplegeist AND Obsessive Skinner and 2 spirits, and he only had 1 watcher in the web -- so I would just tap that down on his upkeep, and his jace wouldn't keep up. Within 1-2 turns he played his 2nd watcher, totally shutting down my offense; so it's possible that not saccing the jace just then might have worked better for him. He may have actually had the watcher in hand, but decided that saccing Jace plays around me drawing 1 removal spell for 1 watcher; with the emblem I would have to have 2 (or some other spell).

Or maybe he just figured "who can beat a jace emblem?". If he had something like Ever After, Epitaph Golem, or Seasons' Past then I would have been the one that ran out of cards, I think.
