Format is 2-headed Giant Draft. Winning Giant gets a pair of FTV 20.

Help me theorycraft for this format. Thinking that forcing Storm will be awesome, and I've always been a fan of UG suspend in the format.

So... I'm guessing Modern Masters? Have you actually drafted it? Storm has been pretty bad in my experience unless you get the god draft. I don't see it being much better in 2HG, in fact, it may be much worse.

I really enjoy the artifact deck. When you get the right pieces, it's pretty awesome. I especially like it here because the main problem I've had with it is that it's sometimes a little slow to get set up (sometimes... other times it just explodes and leaves your opponent wondering how you managed to play 5 cards on turn 4 and still have steam), but with your teammate helping, you can probably take your time. Once the deck gets going, it's pretty hard to stop, it's just value play after value play.

How does 2HG draft work? Are you across from each other?

Correct Filo, its a Modern Masters draft. I'm dumb for not mentioning that. And yes, I've done a few, but not a ton.

Me and my friend I'm doing it with are thinking that Storm is probably better in 2-HG, because of how it works.

How it works: You don't sit next to your teammate, but what happens is that you pick two cards per pack, and then the two players combine their pools to build their decks.

This made us think that Storm is going to be easier to draft (at least, Arcane-Storm combo) because you can grab multiple cards from packs to make sure you have the key pieces.

We talked it over, and decided that Storm + some form of Tromp deck (I'm a huge fan of blue/green decks in the format) was probably what we would go for.

That said, which of the decks do you think are nuttiest when you get the nut draft?

I'm better at mma than you.

Best nut decks that done require rares: rebels and five color mono green
Best nut deck that does require rares: storm

Mono green splashing whatever you want is pretty strong in this format. However, in paper drafts, not mtgo drafts, it's going to be widely drafted. it's pretty easy to jump into though because if you see late kodama's reaches they are pretty much insane.

Rebels is a deck that you might be able to get into easier in paper because it's def harder to play in real life than on mtgo. My best successes in MMA have been with rebels and it's not an "obvious" deck type if you're unfamiliar with drafting the format.

I would say that UR is terrible and you can only be in it if you're just getting the stone nuts. RB is pretty bad too in a format in which search for tomorrow and kodama's reaches are running around but sometimes you can just overrun people. UB is pretty bad too because faeries suck.

White is pretty underdrafted in this format because the uncommons are not super strong but you can pick up a lot of utility cards that work well in a splash.

good luck, jaymann.

Epochrasite is not a fair card.

I second rebels. I was in rebels in an MMA draft to the left of someone else in rebels, and we both went on to be easily undefeated until we clashed in the finals. It's deep, interactive, and fun.

Storm is good in theory, but the whole deck can stumble. MMA is still a creature-based format.

Alternatively, you could just draft all the axes. I hear that wins.

I'm having a hard time justifying drafting storm or arcane in a format where you need to deal 10 more damage. Unless you go for the mill kill with arcane.

When talking about storm, I'm clumping actual storm and Arcane into the same deck, because they use a lot of similar cards. I'm going to probably try and draft a Petals-Thought deck.

And yes Ben, you're probably better at MMA than I. I've done four drafts of it.
