Firefiend Elemental What a miserable pack. Evolutionary leap and Consecrated by Blood are comparable to the just-on-time guy, but the rest is quite bad. No removal, however conditional. No strong uncommons. A mediocre rare and uncommon, good in some decks and quite bad in others. I pick the guy that will make every red deck we happen to draft. |

I agree that this pack is pretty awful. I disagree with taking Firefiend Elemental. I would take both Nantuko Husk and Evolutionary Leap over it. I don't want to take a replaceable 4-drop for my first pick. I'd rather take a card with a lot of upside. 4-drops are a dime-a-dozen in this format; you always have too many of them. Elemental is fine filler, but rather unimpressive. I'd take Evolutionary Leap here. It's great with any token makers, utility creatures like Elvish Visionary, and just has a much higher ceiling. |

This pack is so awful, I take Guardian Automaton... a card that's at no risk of being completely dead to us when the next pack comes along and hopefully gives us a reason to go to a specific color/archetype. "A 3/3 for 4 is automatically playable" - LSV. It's barely usable filler, but it's barely usable filler that doesn't bind us tightly to anything yet. We take Firefiend here and get, a Wyvern/Crasis/Castellan/Skaab next pick... we're likely ditching red entirely and our p1p1 is a dead card. Guardian Automaton may be boring fill, but it's boring fill that any deck could use. |

It's boring fill that I cut from 9/10 decks. |

Whatever we take here, there's a chance we won't play it if we get a decent pick two. And no great loss either. I don't like Leap, since sometimes you want to draw spells, and Leap just puts them on the bottom. Automaton is a control card, trying to recup a slow start and letting you get to your bombs. It often wheels, and with good reason. I prefer attacking in this format, and Elemental is good for that. Any deck that plans to curve out can use it. Picking it also empties the pack of usable red and white aggro cards. If given a choice, I will go for RW aggro in Origins. Husk is certainly interesting, but I haven't yet met a deck that made good use of it. In other words, I don't know how to draft a deck where Husk is good. |

Nantuko Husk > Elemental. Leap is worth a couple bucks. Husk is a very solid magic card (even if you aren't in the BR sac deck), although a miserable first pick. Sadly we won't wheel act or shaman I don't think. I actually think you can cut Elemental from a red deck (although it's unlikley), you don't really want more than 2-3 4 drops. There are good 4s in all colors. |

Leap is super duper lackluster. Husk is solid, and I wouldn't fault anyone for taking it over Firefiend, but I honestly just like Red more in this format than anything. Nothing useful is tabling from this pack, no matter what you pick. |

Firefiend Elemental it is. (Boo!) Pack 1, Pick 2 1 x Goblin Piledriver 1 x Anchor to the Aether 1 x Blood-Cursed Knight 1 x Infernal Scarring 1 x Enlightened Ascetic 1 x Aspiring Aeronaut 1 x Cobblebrute 1 x Elvish Visionary 1 x Catacomb Slug 1 x Charging Griffin 1 x Lightning Javelin 1 x Knight of the Pilgrim's Road 1 x Akroan Jailer 1 x Forest |

Piledriver for the money. Otherwise Javelin? Getting into white here wouldn't be awful, either. |

Lightning Javelin This is probably the best card in the pack, and it's in our color. Some nice playables here, I like Anchor best, and if we went with Husk, I'd probably vote for the Knight. And Leap would get the perfect companion here in Visionary. But I like where we are with the Javelin. Oh, and we need to stop taking fours and start taking twos. |

Cards 273 (Aegis Angel) thru 288 (Terra Stomper) exist as MO cards for the purposes of inclusion in the Deckbuilder's Toolkit and in store-giveaway getting-started decks. But they aren't in any randomized content. |

They are also standard legal. |

Lightning Javelin Nothing in this pack even makes me want to start considering a second color. |
