Thanks CG

I think this has been a bit of a train wreck where we've ended up not fixing on our colours and got a mediocre deck. I guess it depends on what people want out of a draft. This was certainly fun but if anyone is reading this trying to pick up tips on drafting I don't think helps.

3 colour decks really aren't good in this format and we are likely to get beaten by more focused decks the majority of the time. We need at least 10 plains to run all of the doubles out and on time yet we need at least 6 islands and 4 mountains for the cards we want to run in red and blue as well. This means that we have created an 18 land deck (which is still sub-optimal) with a 17 land curve.

IT WAS ALL WORTH IT to struggle with this. Like a sealed pool

1 x Nyxborn Shieldmate
1 x Favored Hoplite
1 x Phalanx Leader
1 x Deepwater Hypnotist
2 x Setessan Battle Priest
2 x Wingsteed Rider
1 x Traveling Philosopher
1 x Nyxborn Triton
1 x Akroan Conscriptor
1 x Floodtide Serpent
1 x Arbiter of the Ideal

1 x Gods Willing
1 x Glimpse the Sun God
1 x Fall of the Hammer
1 x Stratus Walk
1 x Griptide
1 x Fate Foretold
1 x Voyage's End
1 x Traveler's Amulet
1 x Triton Tactics
1 x Aqueous Form
9 x plains
2 x mountain
6 x island
//sideboard
1 x Ephara's Warden
2 x Stymied Hopes
1 x Benthic Giant
1 x Coastline Chimera
1 x Thassa's Bounty
1 x Rageblood Shaman
1 x Springleaf Drum
1 x Lightning Volley
1 x Oracle of Bones
1 x Unknown Shores
1 x Satyr Rambler
1 x Titan's Strength
1 x Flamespeaker Adept
1 x Dragon Mantle
1 x Ill-tempered Cyclops
1 x Portent of Betrayal

I figured since I was advocating the white, I had to make a white deck. I tried WR splash blue first but it seemed bad. RU does NOT seem good, but considering we passed RU playables for white that's unsurprising. Serpent isn't really great, but you can still win with flyers and there are 2 enchantrips. I couldnn't really justify adding dragon mantle to the splash. Last cut was Portent of Betrayal. Unknown shores seemed bad. Springleaf drum... maybe ... we could use the mana but we can't really spare tapping creatures to make it.

While this doesn't look like a 3-0 it could eek out a 2-1. Probably letting the UB or GU player win easily because we screwed the "real" white heroic guy out of 4 bombs.

We are the real white heroic player :)

With something like this, you have to be a bit bold. So I would play Titan's Strength over the Deepwater Hypnotist. Hypnotist is our only early blue drop, so then I'd drop two Islands for the Springleaf Drum and a Mountain.

If this deck gets the mana, it's good. So we may lose a game to color screw, but otherwise, we're good. We're not very aggro, so we can afford the Drum for early fixing, and as long as we get the white, we should have enough plays to be competitive.

@Falcon: this is exactly the place to try something like this. Way cheaper than a real draft. Not a learning experience for the beginner, true, but are there any of those reading this forum?

This deck is fine. It's not OMG LOLZ KILL YOU ALL, but if the only way you win is with perfect decks, well, I'm not sure what to say to you. This is like a 5/3 or a 4/4 at a decent PTQ.

I could see playing Titan's strength...but I would cut floodtide serpent or arbiter of the ideal for it.
Arbiter is a bomb... but I don't see our 2 bounce spells stretching us to turn 8 or whatever to cast it.

I don't see how you we can play springleaf drum with 12 creatures. Especially since the best target (hypnotist!) you cut!

I guess it depends on your mulligan pucker factor.

Not much you can do with the Battle Priest but tap it for mana :)

I just wanted to minimize the need for early red or blue. But you're right there, Hypnotist works well with the Drum. We might play that over the Serpent, or over a Battle Priest. Surprisingly, this deck even has various viable sideboarding strategies, depending on how fast we need to be.

One of the nice thing about drafting 3 colors is that there is really only a couple totally non-playables in our 45.
I kinda think we need pillow fight priest to block.

As one of the white opponents, I feel a red blue deck should get posted.

Arbiter of the Ideal x1
Akroan Conscriptor x1
Nyxborn Triton x1
Deepwater Hypnotist x1
Impetuous Sunchaser x1
Floodtide Serpent x1
Satyr Rambler x1
Benthic Giant x1
Ill-Tempered Cyclops x1
Fall of the Hammer x1
Lightning Volley x1
Stratus Walk x1
Springleaf Drum x1
Griptide x1
Dragon Mantle x1
Portent of Betrayal x1
Stymied Hopes x2
Fate Foretold x1
Voyage's End x1
Traveler's Amulet x1
Triton Tactics x1
Titan's Strength x1
Aqueous Form x1
Mountain x8
Island x7

I like the interaction between Hypnotist (which isn't super playable) and Springleaf Drum. Even better is tapping them to pull a suprise Triton Tactics, untapping and debuffing the attacker. Sunchaser and Satyr Rambler are decent low-drops that carry our enchantments well. Serpent is a moderately powerful creature that lets us rearrange our enchantments as well as score more enchantrips triggers. This decks land is super-smooth, with flood being my primary concern.

The deck is so much better especially if we had picked the cards in the early picks of pack 3. I reckon the decks drafted are 1-2 decks unless we get lucky.

CG - could I request another BTT draft? Or if people want to do something different what about TPF?

9 creatures is not a deck. You have to at least run Flamespeaker Adept, Oracle of Bones, and probably Rageblood Shaman.
