Yeah, he had multiple Ordeals, but I burned his critters away .. ups, we can't do that. But it can be done to us. Just sayin' :)

OK, I'll change my pick to Ordeal of Nylea. That 2-1 versus 3-0 remark was way too accurate. Seems like monsters can be had a dime a dozen.

While I would have personally just snatched up the sphinxes, I think rnstme's argument makes sense.
Though honestly it sounds like we should be snatching sedge instead?

I'll put in a vote for Ordeal for now, with a preference for sedge if anyone is willing to join.

Ugh, not sure that ordeal is better than scorpion, if we get to the late game with enough life points we should be able to play treats faster than our opponent can find removal to remove them, and hoping to get enough decent small critters to abuse the ordeals at this point feels risky.

I'm pretty sure Scorpion is a fair bit better than the Ordeal for this deck. This deck is not going to consistently blow our opponents away with a quick ordeal, and we also have no way to protect an ordealed up creature. Sedge Scorpion on the other hand is excellent defensively and wears auras really really well, if I had a choice between one ordeal and two scorpions in this deck vs 2 scorpions and one ordeal? I choose the scorpion.

That said, the Sphinx is just incredibly friggin powerful. It is a powerful, evasive critter that dodges removal and practically ensures no more dead draws. Which is why I think it is the best pick.

I think Scorpion is a fine pick and worthy of discussion. It helps our early game and midgame. About the only time it isn't relevant is when we're way ahead on board. It works great with our time to feed and fate foretold as well.

I like the ordeal better, but that's also more of my play style, as it can generate 2-for-1s and I love those.

Let's look @ the deck:

Sedge Scorpion
Satyr Hedonist
Omenspeaker
Nessian Courser
Opaline Unicorn
Nylea's Disciple
Staunch-Hearted Warrior
Staunch-Hearted Warrior
Nessian Asp
Prophet of Kruphix
Sealock Monster
Sealock Monster
Nemesis of Mortals
Vulpine Goliath

Voyage's End
Curse of the Swine
Ordeal of Thassa
Ordeal of Nylea
Time to Feed
Fate Foretold
Savage Surge
Fade into Antiquity

I think you can make an argument for Opaline or for Griptide. Griptide is what I would pick, I think, because it's a decent tempo play and the Unicorn wheeled last pack, so we could conceivably get it later. But I would be fine getting the Unicorn too.

We are still very top-heavy. Not many decks will be able to keep up with us when we hit five mana. I love Griptide, but I vote for the Unicorn.

Unicorn. We need that jump from 3 to 5

Griptide, because we need more answers to ordeals/wing steed rider type draws

Griptide but it's pretty close. I would rather get cheaper dudes than depend on ramping int Kruphix/Asp/Sealock. Griptide works no matter what we get.

Griptide, but it'll take a really good card for us to pass another unicorn.

People that complain about being Top Heavy in Theros shouldn't look at my draft decks.

I'd rather go over the top of everybody else and risk dying to the nut aggro decks you rarely see.

Slam that Griptide

See, there's always one or two aggro decks in my pods, sometimes three including me, and I tend to eat the fat decks like these.

The beef decks probably aren't drafting enough Voyage's End then, which is probably my number 1 aggro buster.

Lately, aggro does not necessarily mean heroic. It means good early drops and combat tricks, hitting you for 10 on turn four if you don't do anything, and for five if you bounce something. And they play it right back, because of the low curve. Then your blockers get killed, and then you die. Where I draft, you need to first-pick Voyage's End to get it, and blue is overdrafted. Nylea's disciple is a better aggro stopper.

I would say Voyage's End is still better, you just are never to draft enough. It deals with combat tricks, ordeals, and all-in heroic, which are pretty much your three basic aggro problems. Most decks can deal with a swarm if they can negate the combat tricks, and Voyage's End is one of the few cards that does that well.

I think the point is moot. Voyage's End is a top 3-4 common and everyone knows it. If they aren't running it, they can't splash blue or they didn't get passed any.
