We already have the Sledge, and we can search for it. But we're a bit low on creatures, and on ways to fill our graveyard with monsters. Scholar does double duty there.

Polluted Delta. We are black and we have a tropical island so it'll have plenty of targets and with the island it'll help us splash for Edric.

If we just draft good cards in color we won't need to pass awesome cards for fixing. What are we playing that's blue? The spy? Screw that.

Elder is in color and gets us 2 lands, mine is a land and gets us all our colors but only three times. I'll go with elder.

I'm a little concerned about how often we'll be able to cast Elder on time with that mana cost, but he does seem to do the job a little better than the Mine.
