It would be an interesting version of this that allowed 1 copy per printing.

this is so cool i would love to do one, i actually came across pros roto draft.
a big difference i've notices is they value (as they should I agree) Fetch and shocks much higher than this draft, some went as high as 1st round, and some only took fetches and shocks up until round 8. seems solid plan, get all the fixing you need, bone people on there fixing and get into an open archtype when everyone else is established.

I'm going to recommend doing this at my local shop. except it appears like it could take a very long time

Phyrexan Obliterator. Stuff it, other colours are overrated.

The OP has the link to the pro draft that inspired this one.

Doesn't quite sound like the one we modeled after - that one didn't have a single land taken in the first round (though one dual and one nonfixing land went in the second). There were 3 people who took 3 or 4 duals in their first 8 picks.

There were like 4 high profile Modern Roto drafts that all happened at the same time.

No it wasn't that one, though ironically i did stumble onto that one last night and didn't know this was modeled after that, Explains the high batterskull pick, I couldn't imagine that card as good as it is being that high a pick without SFM . though it wasn't the same it is worth noting that the 2 big name pro's in that draft did take land higher than the rest. Sorry I don't have a link, it was done about a year ago when Journey cards just came out, didn't have a lot of high profile guys, Cedric Phillips was in it

Taking fetches and shocks lets you stay open, while taking strong/high impact cards. Batterskull seems to be the general "Best first pick that doesn't announce an archetype."

Ha, I am 8 picks in and I still don't have an archetype.

It looks like our archetypes are as follows:

Masterofdoom: "Here's hoping this works better in Rotodraft than it does in cube."
Zenbitz: "Maybe if I get enough good cards, I won't need a good deck."
Cato: "I want to draft an archetype, but I don't want to go through all the hard work of thinking of one."
Thatmarkguy: "I think there are enough boring but pushed rares for me AND zenbitz."
Felbatista: "I will have to play so many bad cards to reach critical mass for my good cards to work."
Shazzeh: "I'll bet I can make combo work in a singleton format where all the good card selection is banned."
Dr Demento: "I think all your decks will be too *****y to win before turn 6."
ajunior: "I can't let Cato have bolt."

My process was like

"Take good black cards, then move into an open color. Oops, there is no open color. Crap."

No one else worried about whether colors were open before they moved into them. Don't see why that should concern you.

All the best cards of other colours are gone now, plus I get to play Obliterator, which is super-cool.

Cato wins the draft with that post, he could go 0-3 and it wouldn't matter.

I am on my phone, won't let me update the sheet. Can someone give me Hinterland Harbor and Thragtusk?
