I'm 8 days away from an FNM MM2015 draft. And at $35 a pop. knowing the top commons and archetypes are something a lot of us just won't have cash available to learn as we go. of course knowing to money rares to fuel my addiction is key. outside of that what makes a good MM2015 draft deck?

I'm asking myself questions like what cards can be signals, like a pick 4 Flatten in DDF is a signal to me.

so anybody want to share there thoughts on drafting this expensive set.

Great idea for a thread, and I am in a similar situation since I just started playing again at Theros. I will end up catching some pro's draft online to make it easier.

My local store is having the usual Tues-Fri events next week except the prizes will be a box of MM to the winner each night. I will be there to draft but not playing the constructed events.

I've already snuck in some employeee drafts at the local store that I play for, and done a hundreds drafts of it on cockatrice. I will do a write up later today, but you can check out a small compilation of notable decks I've drafted here.

i'd love to watch a draft, you should record it to youtube. watching drafts whether pro or amateur helps me just in learning more about signalling for the given format

Theros you draft the common white heroic guys with flying, because they are some of the top 5 cards in the entire set.

I would say that good uncommons are always a signal. If you think the card is incredibly good, or the most important card to an archtype, seeing that card in a pack means that is probably open.

I haven't even looked through the full spoiler in detail yet, so that's all about I can say right now.

To be fair URx removal/card draw is a very good archetype.

How good is the BR bloodthirst deck? Its the one I remember drafting most from the core set. Also the one simulator I use leaves that one wide open while it appears the artifact deck gets dried up. At least the artifacts dry up fast.

Also I could swear that I have seen some streamers do these online. How have they been doing it?

They are doing Sealed pools, and because MM2 is all reprints, you can put together randomly generated sealed pools together on Magic Online using existing cards. I guess you could also draft, but it would be a lot more involved.

Thanks. Is there a way to do this easily or do you have to generate it somewhere and import it? Is it easy to play or do you have to find someone in a free form area to play against?

LSV was using this website, you can save the deck and import it into MTGO, although it doesn't hand Apostrophes or Aethersnipe well so you wold have to do those manually. Finding someone to play is tricky though. Much easier to do on Cockatrice.

Sounds like somebody a visited the Beastiare recently. You can't force Robots on there if you try, they get gobbled up so fast, i get a few rusted relics late which i think is a big piece you'd want

So:
B/R Bloodthirst - with Goblin Fireslingers and gutshot enablers for the bloodthirst guys

U/B Proliferate - probably a little green with cards like Strive. cards like Sickle Ripper seem like the valuable 2 drop of choice

Mono Red elementals -

5 color domain - Matca Riders, tribal flames, and sunburst

G/W tokens - Raise, Spectral , Scion

B/W spirits/Arcane - thief of hope , waxmane baku spectral

Robots: U/W affinity & Arftifact Equip deck-

Eldrazi Ramp - Rampant Growth, the Eldrazi drone enablers

there also seems to be a Sac outlet deck possible, but really needs one of the rares to be strong in my opinion . Bloodthrone Vampire is a good card for this

I am missing any of the apparent pushed themes?

I personally want to try B/W spirits. those thief of hopes seem very lacking unless your a deck who can trigger multiple times. i can imagine 3 of those and the waxmane in a draft being a strong archtype
And i wanna try Robots because i've been playing since Dragons maze and have NEVER EVER played any affinity type of deck

Okay, so here's my review of MM2. For draft, you're going to want to grab the good bombs and removal spells. Most of the archetypes require specific "Good cards" so take those, but don't tunnel too hard into a strategy.

For RG Ramp/Domain, you're going to want to pick up Kozilek's Predators, Savage Twisters, etc, just good stuff. One of the best enablers is Fiery Fall, but any of the red removal spells are really good. You can easily splash a third color like blue for AEthersnipes or Repeals. Normally repeal isn't fantastic, but you just want to stall until you can start dropping your bombs like Ulamog's Crusher.

For UB Value, you're competing for AEthersnipes and the black removal spells/spirits. This is a hard archetype to get since the good black cards go into any deck, so you'll want to get the quick. Agony Warp, Dimir Guildmage, Mulldrifter are insane uncommons, and AEthersnipe, Narcolepsy are your core commons.

BW Spirits is very reliant on specific cards to be good, but Ghost Council and Restless Apparition are insane cards that are signals it's open. Same with late pick thief of hopes.

UG Graft is an okay archetype, but not great. You'll get a lot of cards no one else wants to play, but you basically have to take every thrummingbird.

RW pump is not the greatest, but generally this archetype is open for anyone who wants it. You're competing with every other deck for the removal spells and flayer husks/sickleslicers, but that's okay since you're the one who wants Darksteel Axe.

Blue Green looks like it is a little more suited for proliferate than blue black, though I agree that blue black is in it too.

Thrummingbird looks like it has a lot of potential to cause problems with either deck.

Did a MM2015 draft at my LGS. I started to go down the B/G sacrifice path but then snapped out of it and drafted RG 5 color because duh.

1 x Burst Lightning
2 x Tribal Flames
2 x Dragonsoul Knight
3 x Fiery Fall
1 x Wildfire

1 x Scute Mob
1 x Rampant Growth
2 x Nest Invader
1 x Kozilek's Predator
1 x Pelakka Wurm

2 x Vengeful Rebirth

1 x Alloy Myr
1 x Skyreach Manta
2 x Arrest
1 x Tezzeret's Gambit
1 x Spread Sickness

1 x Evolving Wilds
1 x Selesnya Guildgate
1 x Gruul Turf
1 x Rakdos Carnarium
5 x Forest
5 x Mountain
1 x Plains
1 x Island
1 x Swamp

The only notable sideboard cards were 2 Smash to Smithereens

The deck is pretty much exactly what I want in the format, note the 3 Fiery Falls and 2 Vengeful Rebirths (0 Aethersnipe though :( ). It performed like the sweet deck it was, killing everything relevant and finishing the game with one of five cards.

Match one was against U/G proliferate, I won both games by getting a 5 color beater online (Dragonsoul Knight game 1, T4 5/5 Skyreach Manta Game 2) and then finishing my opponent with a rebirth to the face. He got some super scary boardstates though and I was impressed by the deck.

Match two was against U/W artifacts. I won game 1 by stabilizing at 3 after I finally answered all his fliers, got a Scute Mob down, and started Vengeful Rebirthing things. Game 2 I keep a hand without s lot of interaction, I make a cruicial decision to land cycle for a forest over a mountain T2, and then I get to T5 and I can't cast my Wildfire to leave him with no creatures and no cards in hand, instead dying on the next turn. Game 3 he keeps a slow hand and gets steamrolled by removal+Wurm.

Match 3 is against the guy who was on my left in the draft. He took up the B/G sacrifice deck i abandoned, but it was more of a ramp deck with tokens and removal than anything else. I flood out a bit both games, and he had enough removal and a Profane Command both games to finish me off. This is the only time I had a Vengeful Rebirth stuck in hand because I didn't have any good targets. Not drawing Fiery Fall, Wildfire, Texxeret's Gambit, Spread the Sie Sickness, or Pelakka Wurm makes that card much less sweet.

Match 4 is against another UW artifacts deck (we played between pods, also my pod had 9 people). His deck was much less aggressive, but it had a lot more hard removal and counterspells. Game 1 I get Scute Mob back from my graveyard twice with Vengeful Rebirth, before he sticks it with a Narcolepsy and i beat him down with a Nest Invader and an Alloy Myr. Game 2 he counters my first Rebirth, and then my Pelakka Wurm, but I use some of my cheaper spells to stabalize, and then I draw my second rebirth to kill his only remaining threat and get back my Wurm. I regret this play, because I could have rebirthed back rebirth for extra value, but he scooped regardless because #Value.

My Round 1 match was late to start, so we beame the defacto feature match, and most of the drafters got to see me doing absurd things with Fiery Fall and Vengeful Rebirth. I don't think this particular deck is likely to be this open again at the shop.
