Or should we put this in the spoiler forum? I would like to discuss pre-release package Pickering with you guys. Probably have to reserve this weekend.

My kid will take red, so I probably won't... After that I am really undecided. I will leave it at that without spoiling cards in cases folks still care.

I'm thinking blue or white. Lots of fun stuff there. Plenty of heroic and inspired enablers and things to swing with. Both archetypes basically make your creature unblockable. Removal and card advantage.

You could also pick green abd run all color fixing then splash every bomb you get.

Zen, based on your posts and decks I think you'd benefit from white personally. You see very curve- and utility-oriented, which is what white looks like to me. That 5-drop that is either a huge flyer or a cloudgoat shephered? Sexy.

I'm obviously going green and hoping for strong red as a second color, but I think no one is surprised by that.

Of course, white is my least favorite color. I read your post as "You don't understand synergy very well". Which I think is partially true - certainly I don't PLAY it very well.

Although don't have strong preferences, I like Ux -where x is not W. I would play control but I play too slow.

Here are my thoughts. Based on the promo rares, there are three that cost 6 and two that cost 7. Blue seems like the most effective bomb @ 6 (obviously the 7s are bombs... but 7). Green seems like the worst but rampable.

We get 3 Theros packs, cards we know probably TOO well now. We know that Blue is the best splash, Green is the deepest, White has the best tricks and uncommon heroes. Black is the only way to go control. Red creatures suck.

Green also ramps and fixes.

What does BNG add? Well obviously we should ignore the non-promo rares. Dumb to pick a strategy base on that.
Inspired seems like it will be fine if you get the cards, but since little in Theros helps you with it you are either going to get an "Inspired" pool or not. Monstrous has no synergy so who cares. Heroic is big in both sets.

Ah, here is BNG valuable information (pre gatherer)
White has 2 common, 1 uncommon and 1 superbomb rare hero.
Red has a single, uncommon hero (5 drop no less - but powerful)
Green has a common and uncommon hero and they are both pretty decent.
Blue has a solid common (snapping drake/assault griffon variant) that has heroic as an afterthought (or with bident)
Black has Zero Heroes.

Not going to count enablers, but there are some good ones.
Multicolor cards are all uncommon or mythic so not liely to be relevant - although the GW and UW uncommons are both hero-tastic.

I was thinking of playing (skipping red)
Blue - because it has the best promo and I lurve blue.
Black - because zomg removal and I still have barely played with Gary
But I think both of those are not going to be great for me to play at the pre-release. The Blue looks solid, but actually tricky to play what with all the optional CA. Blue seems to be lacking commons like Naiad, Voyages' End, Vaporkin.
Green - There are very good reasons to be in green for the release - only real ramp and fixing and Sealed can often be a "Play 4 color bombs" format. Plus, you are probably guaranteed to get ~8 green playables in 3 theros packs. Green also has very good devotion.

that leaves White... which rstme's advice aside, just looks really, really good in BNG. And we know that in the right decks it's good in theros as well.

Which is all irreverent because I will crack a Kiora and play UG. And go 3-1.

I'm thinking about UW, mostly because of the UW uncommon enchantment. That card is crazy. But for me, it's three weeks to prerelease, so I haven't really thought about it yet.

Never hope for a specific uncommon.

I was going to make a thread like this, then I got lazy.

White seems to have some really solid new cards, and was also powerful in Theros. Black might not be a bad idea either.

This is not knowing what promo bombs you are getting, and if you get to use them

True. But if I do get it, I want to be able to play it, and a white or blue seeded pack rises the chances.

Edit: Oh, I see. I forgot to mention I like the rest of the UW in BNG too.

UW seems strong.

Especially an uncommon that you cannot get (multicolored) in your mono-colored pre-release pack.

Think that white has some of the best cards in the cycles.

And the dude who gets bigger based on your dudes + auras is pretty awesome.

I gave the BNG random generator a spin, and I found I really don't like black.
You'll usually get excited over a few big drops (Keepsake, Gary, maybe a Whip), the low drops tend to be dismal unless they are all removal.
White on the other hand almost always seems playable.

Really? Where did you see that? I thought that the only restriction was on the Mythic slot.

Ditto Z, I didn't see anything about non-multi colored permanents. And since we can still pull one of the gods, seems like it's the exact opposite.

However, it would kinda suck to get a GR card in your G pack when you wanna go GW, so Jman's got a point too.

Indeed I read the promo and I must be wrong. I didn't realize you got a rare slot in your promo pack, I assumed that was taken up by the mandatory 6 drop.

I reserved white simply based on rstme's advice.
