Fleetfeather SandalI pick-oned the Nemesis, because it's usually a 5 drop and 5 for a 5/5 is pretty sweet. I next picked that 6 CMC white kill spell, but didn't see much white after that and moved into a very wide open field of black. Unfortunately, I passed up on some better 3-drops and 2-drops for removal and the howler and a Hammer of Pur for my constructed decks, thinking I'd pick some up later and, well, never seeing them again.
0-2 vs. Elspeth
Match one I knew I was playing against my buddy, who is a really good control player that plays a lot of flyers, which is why I have 2 shredding winds in my pool. Things were looking fine game one, until he slammed down Elspeth, then the next turn used that card to throw 3 creatures back into your hand, ruining my board. Ellie pooped out a ton of soldiers, and I was dead. Game 2 I mulled to 5, then he dropped
Akroan Horse on me T4 and Ellie on T6 and had enough defense from the tokens to ultimate her while I flooded out.
2-1 vs. American Chimera
I drop game one to a mull to 5 and mana screw. Game 2 I mull to 4 and proceed to flood out, but he has the crappiest hand ever and just dies. Game 3 isn't really memorable--my deck finally worked, while his deck didn't. Lots of dinky guys with combat tricks does not a deck make.
0-2 vs. 4-color Minotaurs
First, this 4-color deck is not a thing. I mull to five Game 1, and get mana-screwed and he rolls me. Game 2 is close, because he somehow manages to get all of his lands and play jank like Pharika's Cure alongside double-R and double-W and double-B spells, but I finally overtake him after killing his lord and other goodies. Game 3 I think I draw 5 swamps in a row after mulling to 5 again.
Not much of a deck report. You're generally not going to see someone who mulls 5 of 8 games. I never drew nemesis, harpy, cavern lampads, unicorn, sable, or scorpion. In future drafts, I will prioritize better four-drops and three-drops, because since removal is so clunky most people are aggro-ing out with combat tricks early, since they don't have to worry about two-for-ones, then later making their three-drops into five- or six-drops with dinky bestow creatures. This is probably how I will draft my next draft, and what I'll attempt to do in my Sealed tourney Thursday and the PTQ in CT Saturday.
