Bump in the NightIn the night, as you stumble on thresholds of dreams,
There’s a thickness that hangs where the moon never beams,
Is your mind over-active, or something much worse,
Searching vainly through darkness for night’s fatal curse?
Revelations cascade through your sense and your thought,
Inching further away from the hopes that you’ve got,
Grinding your teeth from the weight of your fears,
Having lost any count of your still-falling tears.
Then the bump that you hear rattles muscle and bone,
But the house should be empty, you know you’re alone!
Even flashes of lightning that sunder the gloom,
Have no power to cut through the dark of this room.
In time, you recover a shred of your sense,
Never thinking that fear was the proper defense,
Down so deep in the depths of your quick-beating heart,
You remember the noise which made everything start.
Only that was no mem’ry, it happened once more,
Under cover of darkness…wait…that was the door
