Name: The Blade that Cuts Eternity Author: Barinellos Status: Public Long ago, in the times of the Shard, from the forges of legend arose a man whose skills gave rise to a terrible power. Dakkon was a well renowned smith, a master of his craft, and his finest creation was called the Blackblade. Quenched in the blood of hundreds, the Blackblade was a cursed sword, Dakkon's very soul attached to the blade by the Planeswalker Geyadrone Dihada. More than his soul was attached to that blade, for Dakkon himself was a nascent planeswalker. The sword was one that granted unfathomable power to the man who bore it, and Dakkon was a force of terrible destruction with it in his hand. This is not his story, but nonetheless, his story is important to this one. Dakkon's legend was well known and still is in certain stretches of Dominia. Echoes of it remain, even after the passage of time. However, the powers that be from those far off times have sunk low. That which once was, is no more and no man could equal the might and terrible dark majesty of the Blackblade, lost now to history. But the craft yet remains. It is unknown who it was, man or woman, that began this tale, only that it is clear they sought to do that which Dakkon had done. To forge a weapon equal to the Blackblade. They ultimately failed, but their efforts bore some form of fruit. Though a pale imitation, that which came from the fires of their life was still the mightiest sword for as far as the horizons stretched. So, a new legend took seed, and slaughter watered it. Years, decades, possibly centuries, the sword passed from one hand to another, and various enchantments were wrought on the blade, masking the magics that powered the blade, but as all magic does, those enchantments faded and each time the blade was dulled by that laid upon it. It went by many names as it tumbled down the epochs and eventually, almost innocuously, it fell into the hand of a planeswalker and at that point... vanished. Despite its age, the magics hammered into the blade during its creation remained. This unknown planeswalker could feel the slumbering sorceries within the metal and sought to have the blade reforged. Time and again, he brought it to the finest smiths of the lands and time and again, they turned him away. Kamigawa, Ravnica, Innistrad, half a dozen other worlds, all turned him away. Still, they continued to search, and in some dark corner of Dominia, he found what he was looking for. Eager to test the weapon, he returned to its genesis, where its reappearance would place him in the legends of its terrible homecoming. He had no idea what magics had been awakened in the blade and with his first strike with it, he ensured he would become part of the legend. The sword consumed him, the life force, the power, the spirit, the spark.... of a planeswalker. Eons passed, but finally, that unknown smith's dream came to fruition: A sword to rival the legendary Blackblade. But it was not the sword Dakkon had made. It was as different from that blade as its history was varied. Now, legends filter through the planes about the sword, called by many names, the sword that wounds reality, the portal blade, The Sword that Cuts Eternity. Fools have sought it, Kings have hungered for it, Tyrants have fallen to it. It has become a treasure that many reach for, but still it wanders, promising power to those who find it... and ultimately leading to their deaths. Note: Legends of a half dozen planes may be linked to this, further research is needed when time arises. Cross index weaponry for possible origins and abilities. --From the Libraries of the Academy, Third Hall of Zhiran. |
