Welcome to the OoC topic for the Tomb of Horrors.

Special Rules
For this game we will be using standard 4th Edition D&D rules with the following exceptions:
    1. Passive Perception can only locate things that aren't expressly hidden. Note, you can still Take 10 on an active perception check when not in any danger or time constraints.
Example: The DC for noticing a key just sitting on the bottom of a pool of water is 15 and can be located with your passive perception if it is high enough. The DC for locating a key that has been purposefully hidden in a crack in the floorboards is also 15, but no amount of passive perception will ever find it. For that you need to actively search the area (you may still Take 10 on your search).
    2. Damage is not always going to be ambiguously generic. You can suffer Dismemberment, for example, which is much harder if not impossible to cure and brings side effects.
Example: If your arm should happen to be severed in an unfortunate trap you can still be healed but your max HP will be reduced by 5 and you no longer have use of that arm for wielding weapons, items, shields, etc.
    3. The Tomb of Horrors has no mercy for players. Many of the perilous obstacles in the Tomb are outright unfair for your current level and impose penalties that are often considered too cruel to put in your average D&D game.
Example: Save-or-die effects which disappeared with 4th Edition are present within the Tomb.
    4. Experience, which is ordinarily awarded evenly between players, is instead awarded individually in my game. If you are not present for a given encounter (possible if you split the party) you won't get a share of experience for it.
    5. Achievements. I have a list of hidden achievements that function a lot like PlayStaytion Network Trophies. Each of these are worth between 100 and 500 experience and are awarded to the first player to accomplish the given achievement.
I may add more to this list as necessary.

Other stuffs you should probably keep in mind
The Karaboudjan

Shared Wagon
The Party owns a wagon that contains an assortment of mostly mundane shared goods. Withdrawing an item from the Wagon is a Standard action.

What you can expect from me
I pledge to at least check the game and OoC threads daily. That being said, I may not make a post every day. I will try and keep posts from me to be at a minimum of twice a week. Hopefully more frequent then that, but I do have a life! If I'm going to be excessively busy or away for any length of time I will let you know. I also pledge to treat you fairly and with respect.

What I expect from you
Pretty much the same as what you can expect from me. Check the threads often, and try to make a content post at least twice a week (or, once every 3.5 days at a minimum; hopefully more). If you're going to be away for longer then that, please let us know. Respect me and your fellow players. That's all.

I noticed an update.

Some harsh rules, but Im not against them.

Dismemberment will render the character unusable, if he is able to escape the tomb, unless he can reestablish his member or find a substitute.

Ha! I love how I picked a two-handed weapon character. Is monkey grip still a feat?

*cracks knuckles, gets PC killing dice ready*

Tomb of Horrors is the Dark Souls of D&D. Just so you guys know what you are getting into. XD

Should I create some replacements from the start? :)

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Everyone please pick a color for in-character speech. No red or black. Certain colors I use for DMing stuff, but you can still pick them if you want.

I will use this color for Thibor.

On the subject of the NPC Quinn: I am starting him at level 9, but he will not be gaining a share of any experience earned. This means that I will be dividing all experience earned by 3 (not 4) and awarding it to you guys. You'll get more experience and advance faster this way, eventually out-performing Quinn if he lives that long. I'm not treating him like a PC because I am fundamentally against the idea of the DM PC. He's only here at all to round out your party so you stand a sliver of a chance against what's in the Tomb.

I'll probably use this color for Quinn's in-character speech.

THE IN-CHARACTER THREAD IS READY.

You can post in there as soon as you have picked your in-character speech color (which is now for everyone except Mr.Windspear).

Welcome to the Tomb of Horrors. Prepare to die. XD

For those of you curious, as you know this was originally an epic adventure that would have had you start at 6th level. If we had started the game there you would had have to have gone on a perilous adventure that would take you to the four corners of the Flanaess in order to find that blood-stained cloth that tells you how to get to the Isle of Horrors. Some other junk would have been in there too, but that's basically the gist of it.

The town you are in has a diverse market. You can pretty much find anything you want here.

I'll be doing in character speech in this colour assuming everyone can read it without issue.

Edit: Also just a quick heads-up to say while I am here I won't be starting to post IC until at least tomorrow as I am hilariously tired right now.

For those of you that are interested, I added a background to Quinn's character sheet. I also added his opinion of each of your characters in the allies section.

Thibor will leave to get a Linked Portal Ritual, material to create this ritual, a book and Eternal Chalk (AV1). Can I have them?
