Fair enough, I just always assume people are going to play "good" aligned characters. I mean, had I know counterfeiting money was going to be the first thing done, I would have just made an evil character. As it stands, I might have to adjust Asmo since I doubt he'd want to travel with people who are okay with robbing people.

DS, would you mind if I overhaul Asmo to an evil character so he can get along better with the group?

Don't be so quick of the mark there Squinty. We've got one guy sitting on a pile of fake notes, one guy whose questioning his intentions for them and three characters who aren't aware any of this is going on. I for one am sorely against this plan - I'm just not aware of it. Suffice to say should it come to light I will be having words with those involved. There's just no way this can go off with a result I'd be pleased with.

You can change how you're going to play the character, but I don't see why there is a need for you to rewrite the backstory.

Just asking.
Yes. All your fake gold notes are in denominations of ten already.

I dunno, we're supposed to be level 5, having lived together and worked together. I just don't see a character like mine getting along with people who use magic to fake currency for personal gain.

I know a lot of people don't like the `fools gold' trick I'm pulling now, but Clank is going to spend most of his part on food for the people in the slums. Rob from the rich, give 75% to the poor, y'know? ;)

While I appreciate that (and had an idea that's what you were going for) I figure most of the food/booze providers aren't exactly part of big merchant cartels or anything like that. Most of them are just going to be local bakers, butchers, chefs and inn-keeps trying to rustle up some extra revenue during the festival season. It's less 'rob from the rich' and more 'rob from the poor to give to the other poor'. Still good to know your heart is in the right place with this even if the plan is a little off.

Also attempting to off-load fake money to a bank for real money of the same value is a bad idea. Trust me on this one. You can't play a good-aligned rogue without learning where you can and can not off-load large quantities of questionable goods in a hurry without hurting someone in the process.

And we have our first quest!

5 Guys and a Horse in:
The foolish quest to unload the fool's gold!

But, back on topic, I'd rather us be on the good side of the spectrum vs the evil side.

We can chalk this up as a learning experiment and, if we happen to find a corrupt merchant somewhere, we can dump it on him.

Clank thinks that making one person unhappy in order to make a lot of people happy is a valid course of action, I think there's a name for something like that but I can't think of it right now.

Utilitarianism.

Also, people are talking about banks: Even if a bank were to open during Dragon Festival, it'd close at sunset.

Short phone post to make a few notes, which ill expand upon later.

1. I guessed that I was being wrangled into this only because my bluff but was giving the RP the chance to play out.

2. Im still working on his exact traits, Alexandros is not the type to just do something like that for kicks... and with the time limit imposed, even less so.

3. We have the OoC to talk about this sort of stuff, so lets try to be mindful of the other players. Im seeing a lot of play by post where people make drastic choices without cconsulting the others, and im guilty of it to sometimes. So lets have the foresight to be like "Hey BH what do you/Alex feel about X ?" Before we end up in an awkward RP situation where I now have to figure out a way out of this preverbial corner.

I hope it doesn't seem like a DM fiat to say the banks are closed, but as a rule, most legitimate businesses will close by sunset, if not before. Only bars, restaurants, and other entertainment/hospitality services will stay open into the night. You can find black market dealers most times except very late/early.

Because this has become a concern:

  • Copper pieces come in coins worth 1cp (circle hole) and 5cp (square hole).
  • Silver pieces come in notes worth 1sp, 2sp, and 5sp. They are printed with black ink that shimmers in the light.
  • Gold pieces come in notes worth 1gp, 5gp, and 10gp. They are printed with gold ink and are decorated with fish.
  • Platinum pieces come in tokens worth 1pp. They are rarely used for everyday transactions.
  • Nobody uses astral diamonds.

I definitely do not expect anyone to keep track of this.

Nah it's perfectly reasonable. Honestly I'd be surprised if a bank would even accept 1000gp worth of notes to be exchanged for... the same value of gold in lesser denominations? I mean in a world where Illusions are well known I expect every bank to have measures if a situation that suspicious would arise (like holding said gold for a 24 hours period and giving you a note of credit to come collect it the following day or something).

Also while I have your ear I have two quick questions;
1) Throw us a name for a good restaurant or something, preferably somewhere in the Chrysanthemum District. If we're going to enjoy the festivities we might as well be in the heart of it.

2) How common are Warforged in Hoi Lan Fa (or indeed the world at all)? I'm just wondering on account of the fact that Clank may actually stick out like a sore thumb in this setting.

Restaurants and Bars:

  • The Black Pearl is fine dining and is associated with the prestigious Oyster Theater.
  • Silver Fountain is also fine dining and is known for its extensive deck seating, popular for watching street performances from above.
  • Lower Side Bar is a working class bar-restaurant on the edge of Chrysanthemum District proper and Lower Chrysanthemum. It's closer to your building, so you all have been there before.

Players may make a Knowledge (Streetwise) check to see if they know of more places.

2) How common are Warforged in Hoi Lan Fa (or indeed the world at all)? I'm just wondering on account of the fact that Clank may actually stick out like a sore thumb in this setting.
Warforged are uncommon in Hoi Lan Fa and if seen, they are often working in an industrial park or at the docks. They are generally understood to be non-sapient constructs manufactured by Hoi Dai Jyut, Incorporated. Dwarf-made warforged are very rare now, and more knowledgeable folk can tell dwarf-made warforged because they are built stockier like taller dwarves.

In the rest of the world, all warforged are dwarf-made and also very rare.

Jeeze. Sorry about my last post. I used a d10 rather than a d20 and it wouldn't let me edit (or it did but I couldn't remove the previous roll leading to a chain of about 3 dice). Just deleted and resubmitted the whole thing. I'll double check everything before submitting in the future. Sorry!

Yeah, the forum does not allow you to remove dice rolls from your post, to prevent cheating. In the future, just put them in another spoiler box as errors since you technically just gave yourself a reroll.

Thanks. I'll make sure I do that in the future (the more you know and all that). If it helps having checked Asmo's passive Perception score and compared it to my Stealth I could have tap-danced to the door and he still wouldn't have heard me.

The difference between your Stealth bonus and his Perception bonus is 1.
