Argh. So I built a character for the 'Let's build 5E characters' thread. Now I want to play a 5E game. Or DM one. Or something. But then I'd have to actually read over the full rules to see whats changed. Damn you BH this was a trap all along wasn't it!
I know though, I want to try it out pretty badly actually. I wasn't exactly feeling it for the Mines of Madness game we did and a lot of the stuff didnt quite make sense to me, I kept having to look up what my modifiers were, and didn't really understand proficiency. But one of the reasons I made that thread was by getting in and looking at the content it forced me to read everything a time or two and some of it started making sense.
I'm not currently DMing anything so I could theoretically run one. But I'm only on one day a week for a whole day, and other than that its an hour or so a day. Not exactly PBP friendly. Things should be changing in about 2.5 months though when I'm back in the US.
I had the same idea, but right now there are very few options available for character creation at D&D 5th, so I would postpone any attempt until we have at least the player's handbook.
The test material is incomplete and has many errors, although it has more races, classes and feats than the basic rules. For clerics, for example, it has only three builds and one of them is incomplete, but it is more than one build from the basic rules.
Yeah, a lot of stuff comes down into only having one or two choices between things so a lot of characters would be extremely similar. But I think it will be a while yet before we have a full party of 5e PHB equipped players. Hell I'd be tempted to start tinkering with homebrew stuff. I've never got into it before, but it could make things more interesting than the basic rules.
