I'll be making another IC post at some point today. Welcome to the game everyone, lets get this rolling!

Adding my weapon pluses now, and looking for any last minute mundane adventurer stuff.

PlaneShaper, when Umiki makes her grand entrance, does she carry her ofuda in sight, as well as her wakizashi?

Clipper is this color for speech as an official party NPC.. Other NPCs will use standard black text.

@PlaneShaper

I haven't seen a post yet with Umiki. Are you still on travel? I just want you to know that you are coming through the front door like Hobwink and Clipper. I will be verifying your stat sheet next as Tequila and BH's sheets are done from my standpoint. But I will have that done before we get to battle, I've just been ill the last couple of days. Go ahead and join the group in character when you get the chance. :ontopic:

Just as a heads up red tends to be the "Mod Voice" color of choice.

I personally dont mind but just spreading the word.

Ugh, those were the *worst* rolls ever. Thank god I have a +32 bonus to one of those nat 1's. And also thank god I used those nat 1's and that 4 during my introduction. Get that crap out of the way before any real danger starts happening.

It's actually a set of ofudas, so I was imagining something more like one per spell (since the description is "like a wizard's spellbook). I have them strapped down in various places on her clothes, so she can read them at a glance as her divine focus items. Mostly visible, unless she has her cloak closed. The wakizashi is at her side strapped into her belt, in a similar fashion it is also underneath her cloak. She isn't concerned if anyone sees it. It is peace tied.

Here's a good image of ofudas for those unfamiliar.

Sorry about the extra delay; Argonne and Fermilab are awesome places though, and I also got the chance to walk along Lake Michigan; I've seen three oceans, but I had never seen any of the Great Lakes before. I am home now.

@ PlaneShaper

Judging from the pictures I've seen in the sourcebook, I get the sense that a single Ofuda works as the focus for a Shugenja, and that the spells are written (in some form) in the special scroll, all of them. The character would roll back and forth between the two sticks to access the spell needed, much like a wizard would page back and forth in a spellbook. In any case, if you pin multiple ofudas to your outfit as you are presently operating, I'll assume they are "magic" pins and the ofudas don't come loose. But, if you wish, you can just go with my suggestion and have a single ofuda to keep things simple. (It kinda makes sense to have it all in one source, anyway...you would think eastern magic would be as pragmatic, no?) It's easy enough to edit the initial post.

Once you ran out of room in the first Ofuda, you could then start a second one, but in the case of 9th level, I wouldn't think you had enough to force that.

OBTW, what was a horrible roll? Are you hosed in respect to the other players on some of your stats?

Come to think of it, you didn't have too good of initial rolls, either.

I ain't even mad.

Actually, I really love everything about how that turned out. It is so perfectly fitting with exactly how Umiki's character and personality is built. She is overly analytical, overthinking things to the point where her actions become far removed from common sense. Even if she has (in her own mind) found the perfect justification for her behavior, it's just so opposite of what any other person would "just do." Like, any other person would have just **** walked into the damn tavern. Not Umiki, she *has* to pick through the situation in her mind, double and triple preparing for every potential scenario.

Like, originally, I was planning on just casting Invisibility before going in, but then I thought, 'No, Umiki would *also* cast Know with Shadows, because what if someone has True Seeing on? She might be able to detect magical sensors automatically because of her morning routine, but that won't help against True Seeing. And what if she rolls a nat 1 on her Hide check (which happened)? She would want redundant protection to try to mitigate any serious repercussions from that.'

So, it's pretty much the best way that things could have turned out. Her "airheaded, absentminded, ditzy" nature playing foil to her actually rather brilliant mind.

Hey look at the bright side, you're not Jace... he shows up rolling 0s and 1s.

I see the pictures you're referring to now. I wasn't paying attention to what was in the hands of those Shugenjas. It's odd, because long scrolls like that aren't what ofudas are at all; they are small strips with usually anywhere from 2-10 kanji — which is what made me think of "1 per spell" with a "set of ofudas" being a stack of them, like a slightly oversized deck of playing cards.

I can edit the opening post to make them more singular, like a scroll.

Well, that may be true, but the writer did pull from a lot of sources, and who knows what he thought. I can just go by what makes sense, and separate cards or small scrolls is just begging to be lost in a world with Bullettes and Illithids...not good. In any case, I think a single large scroll on sticks makes sense for the game.

One other note, I don't really care either way, but I think the intent of this OOC section is to have your dice rolls here. I'll check both as I'm not going to be a Nazi about it, but the moderators might prefer to have dice rolls and such here. Not sure. The fact is that the spoiler's you guys are using tends to keep things neat, which is why I'm not that concerned. Preferences by players on what will lead to consistency of use?

Whichever method is preferred by the players and DM is fine with the mod team, and by mod team I mean me, your friendly PBP Overlord Moderator.

Across the various sites I've played D20 on, some do the rolls in spoiler blocks in the post so that its easy to see what roll goes to what IC post, some do them in the OOC so that the only content in the IC is the roleplaying, and some go so far as to have a dice thread so that dice rolls are not lost in the chatter of the OOC while not interrupting the immersion of the IC.

Again, its totally the DM's call, of he the DM so chooses to pass that on to the players to decide.

If you make a separate dice thread please label it as:

[DICE] The Sea Dragon Sets Sail

Thanks,

~Sapper
