Car blew up on the way to work today. I cant guarantee activity tonight ... but we'll see.

If its dead dead I also have to figure out how im getting to work the next few days, especially since im on call.

I'll be working on it roadside after work assuming I can get rides to and from it, and seeing where I stand. Probably wont be able to tow it or do any serious work till Saturday. Hopefully once its cooled down and thougjt about life for a few hours it starts enough I csn limp it home on backroads.

I kinda want to run a mafia game where the majority are mafia and a few are FBI trying to take them down from the inside...

Heh, hosted a similar game myself ages ago...Dungeon Keeper Mafia.

Also, just made a start on the Mafia section of the PbP-guide. If I'm forgetting stuff, just drop me a PM.

No worries, I'll give you a couple days (us folks on travel won't likely post Christmas, or at least I'd really be surprised. If Christmas comes and goes, then I'll do the NPC thing.)

Any suggestions on how to build the game? Not to mention I'd really like to give every player some kind of ability, and have no "vanilla" players int he game.

Down a dark path does that lead!

They can fun, dont mind me. But one of the reasons I got tired of Px2 was because people became dependent on power roles, the power creep got to the point where if people didnt get really powerful roles they complained about being bored and didnt put effort in. [/minirant] Mostly the fault of players, not the game, but still lol.

Hmm, I can see your point. Though, the roles didn't have to be overly powerful, just little stuff to keep people interested.... I dunno.

Yeah just a mini rant , power roles can be fun.

You know, like ghost mafia, where I was an unaligned insomniac who after I was found dead hanging from the chandelier somehow came back as a ghost and could still talk and vote but couldn't be killed

The big disadvantage to a game with no 'vanilla' roles is the fact that if you give everyone power roles, town gets an overwhelming advantage. So that leads to either worse-than-vanilla roles, or a game dependent on a few key roles. Furthermore, if you use a lot of PM-based roles, you can get swamped quickly.

It's always the best idea to start hosting with a relatively normal game and peek at other games that have been hosted in the past.
Dungeon Keeper was my...7th game I made.

Well, I'm home in GA now. My laptop's HDD almost died and I spent the past several days unencrypting the thing and recovering data, repairing the OS to a workable state and reencrypting it.

How's everyone else's New Year so far? Well, I have a lot of crap to post to if I haven't been replaced yet, so I'll get on that.

Raising the question once more to all the D&D / Mafia players.

Do you feel that the PbP has grown to the point that Posting Games have began to flood over the more structured games like D&D / PF / Mafia / Magic?

And if would it be a good idea to reorganize the forum a little bit? Or would it make it too difficult / too much work to bounce back and forth between serious / silly games.

The forum would be set up something like this, but opinions and input are not only welcomed but encouraged:

Play By Post Area
Setup Zone
Check for interest, recruit players, or find a game host. Whatever you're playing, it starts right here.

Forum Posting Games
A forum for the various message board posting games. One Word Story, Word Association, Throw Something, and much more!

Structured Play-By-Post
Active Games
All D&D and Roleplay threads are In-Character. Please only post in a D&D / Roleplay / Mafia thread if you are a player or host in that game.
Out Of Character
All Out-Of-Character conversation for active games. Ask your GM or players a question, discuss strategies with your party members, or brag about that critical hit.

The primary place where a choice exists is the Structured games area. It could exist as two forums (like it does now) named, say... Structured Games and Out Of Character. Or it can exist as a forum with a subforum, like M:EM does. Thus on the index you would have a forum called Structured Games, and once you clicked into that forum all the active games would be on your page and a subforum for Out of Character threads would be in a bar across the top (like M:EM's archive subforum).

Let me know your thoughts, ideas, possible names and descriptions.

Thanks!

~Sapper

The scrolling doesn't bother me but it'd be nice to not have the forum tell me there are new posts every time someone does the word association game or similar.

An excellent point, thanks for the mention. I love being able to tell if I have unread posts in the OoC, but theres just no way to keep up with the Active Games because of the posting games or other games that I dont follow.

I'm okay with it either way. I haven't found it to be a major issue, but then again I have a lighter posting frequency than others, so it isn't difficult for me to keep track of what I'm posting in.

If you split it, it wouldn't be a burden on me that way either. So, I'm not against it.

It looks like we're starting to get more structured games anyways, so that way it's not just a forum with like, 3 threads.

The structured games forum, whatever its final name is, will currently have 13 threads in it.

Those being all D&D / PF games, the two freeform roleplay threads, the Magic Duels...DotP...3CM, and current and past mafia games.

*Click Click*

*Whooosh*

*Whirrrrrrrrrr*

*Bang Bang Bang*

New forum is up, threads have been moved around, some stuff has been retitled, and now this thread is the 'Tavern' and is stickied up at the top of the OoC. There will likely be a few more small changes in the future: Possibly copies of the PbP Guide in each forum once I get the time to finish the parts still in progress, I may make a second Dice Thread here...though its not that hard to go back to the Setup area, and a few other minor and mostly cosmetic things.

If you can think of anything that you'd like to suggest either say something here, or up in the Metaboard. Or you can send either Scarlet or myself a PM.
