so one of the biggest weapons the mafia has in Dethy is the ability to manipulate the town's image of possible results and hide by claiming last. this is why I propose we use a method that does its best to eliminate that. we used to do this back in the day, the basic mechanism is simple: one person (it can be me, since I'm the one proposing this.) claims, then picks the next person to claim. you don't claim until it's your turn. that way, we can hope to maybe get the mafia's claim out there quickly, instead of letting them "happen" to have not seen the thread until the other four people have claimed. of course, they can still wind up claiming last, but that's no different from normal, and you have a pretty good chance of forcing them to be a bit earlier, so they don't have perfect information when they claim. thoughts? PS: also that didn't wind up being as long as I thought it would be, I probably didn't need to post the warning post. but hey I did it, whatever. |

I'm willing. After the last game, I really believe that if town is open and honest, and works together, it's almost impossible for mafia to win. I'm also assuming all the same rules for last game, you are able to no-lynch, and, if you investigate someone who gets killed at night, you get no info. So, if that's true, we should all post who we targeted, and what the results are, but not who we plan on targeting on N1 |

After the last game, I really believe that if town is open and honest, and works together, it's almost impossible for mafia to win. as someone who's played a good amount of Dethy in my time, it's not impossible but the deck is generally a little against them. you can usually narrow it down to a confirmed townie and two suspects, giving you a 50/50 shot plus any info you can get to tilt it.NeoSilk wrote: I'm also assuming all the same rules for last game, you are able to no-lynch, and, if you investigate someone who gets killed at night, you get no info. can't speak to the rules, but whether or not we no-lynch is an important thing to consider. I like a day 1 lynch so you get two shots at scum, but there's value in a third night of investigations too. it comes down to how much we can glean from today's results.also I don't recall the "if you investigate the NK you get no results" rule, although maybe squinty added that to balance things back toward mafia a bit. if that is the case then that changes a lot. however, I'm not sure that it's not still right to discuss targets, just with keeping that in mind. I tend not to put too much weight on hiding analysis from the mafia. information, sure, when useful, but analysis of public information is something they can do on their own. I think it's better to analyze together so we can coordinate our investigations for maximum results, and if the nullification thing is real, we'll just take that into account in our decisions. for instance, if it makes the most sense, individually, for three different people to target the same person, then if we don't talk they may all do that, giving the mafiate a hugely juicy target that cuts off a lot of information. if we do talk about it, though, we can figure out which person best uses that target, and have the others target other people so that no matter what we get some information out of them. we can make sure no two people are investigating the same person, whereas that's really hard to avoid if we don't talk. |

actually, looking at mafiascum's example dethy game, that rule is present. so I guess it's a thing, I just forgot. |

Rejoice for I have joined the thread. As for whats been discussed I like the claim idea - seems to work well enough. Perhaps a simple roll of the dice to determine who reveals their information first? Edit: Aww people need to stop talking while I'm typing. It's very rude. But yeah fair enough. |

dice would've been nice although it feels a bit against the spirit of the game to use non-basic forum tools |

Not sure how long I'm around, so...I'll just jump in here. I also looked at Aaarrrgh, and also found out that he's town. Which, of course, eliminates both Razor and I from being paranoid. Also - LOL@Argh - you're already too suspicious. |

I honestly would've preferred waiting til tomorrow to get your claim instead of getting it out of order. now if Jay is scum he has more information to work on than he otherwise would. |

Sorry - I should have mentioned in this thread - I'm going on vacation for a week, starting tomorrow morning. I'll still be around, and should be able to check in twice a day or so, except for tomorrow. |

Plus, while I get it....it's not that much of an advantage going last - first off, people are going to look closer at you, just cause you went last. There just so much info, assuming town is truthful, that you can get even just from the first night. I think we should talk about no-lynch early as well. I was strongly in favor of it last game, until it became clear that the mafia was one of two players, and even if we're wrong on D1, you've still got D2. If we lynch (all of this is assuming we lynch town, of course), then on D2 we've got 3 people, one of which will be lying about their info. And it's lylo. If we don't lynch on D1, then we're down to 4 people, again with 1 giving false info. Of course, if you mis-lynch then, it's over. So, I don't think that's a good idea. The last option is to no-lynch for D1 and D2. That way, we get 3 (out of 4) truthful pieces of info on D2 and 2 (out of 3) truthful pieces of info on D3, at which point, the lynch happens. So, to me, there's the 3 options, lynch/lynch, no-lynch/lynch and no-lynch/no-lynch/lynch. In terms of winning the game, I think the order is: 1) no-lynch/no-lynch/lynch 2) lynch/lynch 3) no-lynch/lynch However, if it's pretty apparent that it's either one, or one of two, people who's the scum, winning on D1 is a nice feeling. So - I'm all for getting Garren and Argh to post their results. And I'm not particular about the order. |

I kinda agree with Neosilk on the whole 'no real advantage in revealing in a specific order' thing. Then again the world told me he was Mafia so hey maybe not listen to him? |
