Intro
Hi. I'm Zinger. If you don't know me, I design crazy games like Hobgoblin Lives: A Spider-Man Mafia 2. This isn't one of those games (because Spider-Man Mafia 3 needs 20+ players and we aren't there right now). But it will still be crazy, namely, because you get to pick your own roles. Sounds fun? Should be.

The potential alignments and their win conditions are: Town (9 or 10 players) Win when all Mafia & Cult players are dead. Mafia (3 or 4 players) Win when the number of Mafia players equal or outnumber the combined numbers of Town & Cult. Self (1 or 2 players) Win if still alive at the end of the game. Cult (0, 1, or 2 players) Win when all living players are Cult. Jester (0 players*) Win if dead at the end of the game.
*0 Players are Jesters at the start of the game. That could change as the game progresses.

To begin, each of you will be given 7 randomly selected alignment agnostic abilities. Though they will be randomly selected, there will be some control. In Round 1, in your opening pool/first pick, you will be guaranteed to have four 1-shot activated abilities, 1 reusable activated ability, 1 passive (always on) ability, and 1 alignment control ability (will explain below).. From that pool, you will pick one, and pass the other 6 to the player below you on the above list. Yes, this means PK can screw over Freddeh if PK wants to draft that way. Once you've drafted 7 abilities, the process repeats but in reverse order, passing the packs up instead of down. This is Round 2. In Round 2, you will be guaranteed to receive an alignment control in each pack, but not every pack will have both recurring and passives - instead you will have one, or the other. At the end of both steps you should each have 14 abilities. Once this is done you will be told your alignment. Not before. If you are Mafia or Cult, you will be told who your allies are and given access to a discord or quicktopic chat room to discuss ability selection. Then you pick 8 abilities from your 14 drafted ones to add to your role and then we start the game.
The three/four alignments are: Town (9 or 10 players) Win when all Mafia & Cult players are dead. Mafia (3 or 4 players) Win when their numbers equal or outnumber the combined numbers of Town & Cult. Self (1 or 2 players) Win if still alive at the end of the game. Cult (0, 1, or 2 players) Win when all living players are Cult.
You'll note those numbers don't neatly add up to 15. That's where the alignment control abilities come in. Selecting from the 30 alignment control abilities will help determine your personal alignment, and also the number of players of a given alignment in the game. Here's how they work. Whenever you draft an alignment control ability, you get a vote for control over the final setup. You may vote for Town, Mafia, or Self. Whichever one you vote, your odds of getting that alignment in the random roll increase by 2.5%. Furthermore, whichever one had the MOST votes overall gets +1 to their numbers (so if Mafia had a base number of 3 in the setup, they have 4 if they score the most votes here). At the end of the first draft, a vote is tallied, and again at the end of the second draft. When the votes are tallied, if there is a tie for the most votes, instead a Cult player is added to the setup. Also, during the second vote tally, if an 11th Town, a 5th Mafia, or a 3rd Self would be added, a Cult player is added to the setup instead.
When it comes time to pick your 8 abilities, any alignment control abilities you have become generic "+1 use" to an ability you already have.
There may be no talking during the drafting phase.
Ability Rules
You will have 8 abilities (some may be duplicates, and that's okay), mostly 1-shot activated ones, but you may have a few recurring activated and passive abilities too.
The Mafia team won't inherently have a team night-kill ability. They will have to rely on their 8 drafted abilities like everyone else. The Cult, however, if there is one at all, will have a team action that involves indoctrinating people into their Cult. They will nonetheless have to spend some of their 8 ability "slots" to power it.
You can use a single activated ability once per Day/Night cycle. After you've done so, you are considered "exhausted" until the next Day (abilities may also reference this condition).
Abilities don't resolve immediately. There is an unspecified delay between activation and resolution which isn't stated in the rules. The delay is variable and designed to not be something you can figure out in order to game the system. All abilities, regardless of delays, will resolve by the end of the current Day or Night phase.
Some abilities require you to target other players. When you use such an ability, you are considered "targeting" that player, while they are considered "targeted" by you (abilities may also reference these conditions). This is distinct and different from abilities that let you choose a player. If it doesn't use the word target, it isn't a target-ability.
Some abilities block other abilities. When your ability is "blocked" you will be told but not told why (abilities may also reference this condition).
Some abilities protect players from being killed (but not lynched). While under the effect of such an ability, you are considered "protected" and can survive a single kill during any given Day/Night cycle (abilities may also reference this condition). Multiple instances of protection stack, to fend off multiple kill attempts.
Other Rules
All players can vote to lynch a player during the Day. This is not an ability, though abilities can affect votes. Please bold and colour your votes, so I can see them. If I don't see them, I won't count them.
Days will last for 120 hours, or 5 real-life days. Nights will last 48 hours, or 2 real life days. Deadlines will be hard-set, and actions past a deadline will not count even if I'm not present to end the Day or Night.
At the end of the Day, the player with the most votes against them will be lynched. If there is a tie, the Day ends without a lynch (or you can also vote: no lynch to achieve the same effect). Days can end early if a player reaches "lynch majority", which is a fancy way of saying they have more than half the number of available votes placed against them at any one time. Nights end early if all players are "exhausted".
When a player dies, their alignment is normally revealed through a flip. Flips happen at the beginning of or end of Days, not in the middle of Days. Assuming nobody has tampered with the evidence between the player dying and the next reveal, you will know their alignments then.
If you post in the game thread during the Night, you will become "exhausted" for the following Day/Night cycle.
If you post in the game thread or any discord channel other than the dead chat after you have died, your alignment will post-humously change to Self and you will be unable to be "targeted" by resurrection abilities (if any exist) for the rest of the game.
If you quote material from your role PM in the game thread, you will become "blocked" for the rest of the game. You may paraphrase.
If you edit your posts, and I catch you, you will be modkilled.

it looks like they're cutting the time to level a character to the current expansion to about the time it takes to level a character from the start of the current expansion to the end, maybe a bit more.
In any case, it seems like it will be lower than it used to be by an incredible margin, and also they're making every old-world zone in the game 1-50. They said the intent is that you can pick an expansion (like pandaria) on a fresh toon and do that expansion's full quest line and you'll be about ready to head to the current content
i'm pretty jacked b/c allied races are cool but i haven't had the drive to level an alt for a while

I'm going to say that IF you have picked all 14 of your abilities, and IF you've received your alignment, and IF you've chosen the 8 abilities you wish to take with you into the final game and have gotten back your confirmed "ROLE PM" from me, THEN you're allowed to start talking in the game thread.
Have at it, all <insert number between 0 and 15 here> of you who have gotten that far.
Hate to burst your bubble, but technically the 1st person to be all the way finished was PK. But PK just doesn't have access to anything other than Discord right now so...
These insights of mine are exactly what allows me to get into the minds of today's youth and convince them the the church of the one winged angel is the one true path to salvation. I'm "in touch" as the youngsters say.
