Once upon a time, there was a game designer named Zinger2099 who loved designing Mafia games. The problem with this was that Zinger also loved playing Mafia games, and, unfortunately, you can't both play and design at the same time. These two sides of his Mafia identity fell into conflict: his desire to design games against his desire to play them. The battle waged on for many years, but only one side could win. In the end, his designs triumphed over his plays and he stopped playing altogether - or so he thought! His player identity chose to hide, in the space between game designs, waiting for a chance to play again...

Disclaimer: what follows is the standard description and rules of this game. Your role might contradict the description or rules in some way. If it does, your role takes precedence.

This will be Standard Mafia game with light bastard elements. Your role PMs will contain no lies unless it specifically says that it might. The game will feature a Town faction, a Mafia faction, a Secret faction, and a single Self aligned player. There is no Cult, but there may be roles that can change your alignment and win condition. The Town win condition is to eliminate all Mafia aligned players and the Mafia win condition is to eliminate all Town aligned players. The Secret faction has a win condition known only to them, and the Self aligned player must survive to the end of the game. Role PMs are individually crafted and will differ in format from one player to the next. The game ends as soon as all Town, or all Mafia aligned players are dead.

GAME RULES
1. Respect your fellow players and game mod.
2. Have fun.
3. Everyone has a basic vote, which may be used as normal for a Mafia game.
3a. Bold all votes. Coloured votes can help, but are not required. Unvoting is not required to place a new vote.
3b. Do not attempt to hide votes using invisible text or sblocks.
4. Do not edit or delete your posts.
4a. Do not spam the game thread with off-topic chatter. Some players don't have the time to sift through 10 pages to nonsense in order to find one page of content, and as such, spam is downright disrespectful (see Rule #1).
5. Once you are dead, do not post. Not even a "bah" post. Opportunities for Resurrection might exist, so please keep that in mind.
6. Refrain from posting at Night unless your role allows you to do so.
7. A lynch requires a majority vote (defined as 50% of living players, rounded down, +1). Anything fewer results in No Lynch.
8. Days will last approximately 7 days or less. Nights will last approximately 2 days or less. Neither will ever end on a Saturday or Sunday and will be extended to ensure that is not the case.
8a. Deadlines are set in stone. Votes after a deadline will not be counted, even if I am not around to end the day.
9. Do not quote anything I have sent to you by PM. You may paraphrase.
10. Have fun!! Yes, this is on here twice. It is an important rule.

Breaking any of these rules is punishable by the dreaded modvote at my discretion. Modvotes are permanent.

It is Night Zero, and Zinger2099, who should be asleep, is wide awake. He sits in his chair, wearing nought but some checkered boxers and a fish necklace, pondering things. Important things like the meaning of life; whether he should have really eaten that third slice of banana bread; what the next session of D&D holds; and whether or not it is more fun to play Mafia versus design it. That last one, in particular, lingers long in his mind. Different voices call out from inside him, each a memory from his past.

"Surely it is more fun to design," one thought said, "just look to Hobgoblin Lives if you require any proof."

"I think you're forgetting just how much fun playing can be," said another. "Nothing was greater that our epic game wins of days long forgotten."

"Those days are long forgotten for a reason. It's no wonder that the only thing we bothered to save before the mothership exploded was Maximum Carnage, a game we designed, not played."

"Your designs would not exist if not for the fact that we were inspired by games we played."

"True, but what is more delicious, the chicken or the egg?"

The two voices argued like this so much it seemed like they would never relent, while all the while somewhere, deep down, a part of Zinger wondered if there wasn't a way for both sides of himself to live in harmony. "Why don't we play a game to decide which side is better, a game we designed?" And for the first time, his two warring sides finally agreed on something.

"This is perfect! I'll just design a game that's impossible for me to lose!" And his Design identity set to work trying to stack the deck in his favour.

"Hah! Good luck with that. Your strength might be in game design, but mine is in the play. I can win any game you throw at me."

The two smugly went to different corners, assured of their victory, as Zinger prepared the Ace up his sleeve. "Now's my chance to show them both of neither side's superiority...I just have to cheat a little when they're not watching." And so he set about distributing the game roles...not at random, but by design!

Also, fair warning: I am working with a drama group which is currently on tour through northern Sweden. This means that for the next two weeks, I will be crazy busy and have no guaranteed internet access. I will participate as much as I can, but that will probably mean skimming things and giving a short response once a day. And if I vanish for several days without a word it's simply because we are in an area where I don't have cell reception. But I will always come back!
