For those that don't know Dethy (or if you just need a quick reminder), Dethy is a five player game. It is an open set up. It is also more of a logic puzzle than a mafia game. Here are the roles:

Krampus: May kill a target player during the night except on Night 0.
Santa Claus: May target a player during the night to see if they have been Naughty or Nice.
Santa Claus: May target a player during the night to see if they have been Naughty or Nice.
Santa Claus: May target a player during the night to see if they have been Naughty or Nice.
Santa Claus: May target a player during the night to see if they have been Naughty or Nice.

Here's the kicker, each Santa will have a different Sanity. If you're unfamiliar with how Sanity works in mafia, here's a basic break down:

Sane: Results are true.
Insane: Results are inverted.
Naive: Results are always Nice.
Paranoid: Results are always Naughty.

So the logic puzzle isn't to figure out who is the scumbro, but which Santa has which Sanity. To make the game harder, Sanity isn't revealed upon a Santa's death. Because this variant is so damn town sided and it's the giving season, Krampus is getting an extra gift this year. He will have the following ability added to his role:

Miller Time: Once during the game, you may activate this ability to invert all results for the night, this ability will replace your kill for the night if it is not Night 0.

So last night I targeted, of course, KoD.

Unsurprisingly, I got a result of naughty. I am definitely not Naive.

If I am sane: KoD is krampus.
If I am insane: KoD is a Santa.
If I am paranoid: we've learned nothing (Except that I might be paranoid).

Interested to see everyone else's results.

KoD came back as nice for me.


Keep in mind there is a single use night inversion, and variants arent revealed upon death. With that in mind, I would definitely flip all results the first night in a dethy game, to ensure less reliable results. Which means its time to whip out the WIFOM card, would krampus distort N0, or N1?

I targeted zinger, and got a nice result back.

I will be targeting zinger again, and request that one other player also target the same person again, since that will let us know if the results are reversed.

But, we really only want 2 players to target the same person as night 0.

I'm currently unsure of who to investigate tonight. I'm thinking I'll probably go with either Zinger or Eli since both of them targeted me. If no one else decides to target Zinger with you, Neo, then I will target him as well.

Just realized how unclear my post was. I think it's critical that 2 people target the same person they targeted the night before, so we can confirm if the one time ability was used. The sooner we know, the quicker we can figure this out. I'll be one, but, we need 2 people to do it, so we know at least one answer will be honest.
Then, it's just a matter of town all being honest, and we should be able to figure it out.

Zinger - is your NLP in place for anything not related to alignment? Just want to be the gentil reminder to everyone that town lying at all in this game is just a terrible move.

@Neo, I have no intention of lying, but I think it is probably unfair of me to use a NLP in a dethy game (few roles and open setup, NLP can be abused to auto win). Dishonourable even. You'll just have to take my word for it this time around.

I think you mean 3 people need to select the same targets Neo. 2 people declaring simply leaves the killer free to eliminate one, and lie. 3 people ensures even if the killer is one, results will come back.

I'll check io again tonight then if 3 is what we need.

@Eli - you are correct. IMO, at least, it's critical to ensure that we know if the ability was used or not.
Again, I'm going to target Zinger again to see if I get the same results. While we don't want everyone to do the same, we need to know if the results are correct or not, at least by the end of D2, I'd say.

I don't recommend targeting the same people. We should be able to figure out whether or not a switch occured and when it occured just by accruing enough results, and we're essentially giving up a night's worth of investigations to find out this way.

We should talk more. This dethy game isnt a straight logic puzzle, because of the inversion and no reveals upon death. By the time we even have concrete feedback on if the inversion has been triggered, we will be down to 4 people, then 3 when fetching new results. At that point it becomes a personality game, as to who believes who. So yeah, lets not just cruise and wait for the puzzle to solve itself.

So the real question is do we look critically at Nice results, because the killer knows they can tell a Nicer they're Nice, and be well received.

Thats crazy. Without double checking, there is no base line to whether results have been flipped, and thus no baseline on how to treat your results.

Double checking allows to verify the flip or not. If the flip is verified, you can then work on the logic puzzle of your sub-alignment. Moving forward without bothering to get a stable check on how your sanity fares, is wasting time more than verifying. (But it is a shame verifying is needed, but thats the point - that dethy is a simple logic puzzle, and Numbers has tweaked it to make it more mafialike.)

So - from my tracking, assuming the ability was not used, and that everyone (aside from scum, of course) was honest, it would prove that Zinger is not scum.

We really need to know if they are inverted or not.

Sorry - I had a cell wrong, Zinger could still be scum, if the results were not swapped.
It would mean that Eli/KoD are naive/sane, I'm insane, and Io is paranoid.
