Post subject: | MTG: You Pick the Card! (TOWN + 15377 WINS) |
Welcome to Mafia: The Gathering - You Pick the Card Edition! GAME OVER, TOWN WINS, + 15377 WINS Disclaimer: This was not originally my idea, but when Burning_Earth pulled the plug on it a year ago I volunteered to run a version of the idea myself. The game is a Standard Mafia game (no bastard elements) with the added twist that your roles will be fashioned after Magic: The Gathering cards that you pick yourselves! Everyone has gotten at least one ability of some kind. Alignment has been determined independently of roles, at random, after you have made your card choices. It will be entirely possible, based on your card choices, that the Mafia team might not have a night kill. Not all powers are created equal, as I have to keep game balance in mind. The alignments in the game are as follows: 14 players = 9 Town, 4 Mafia, 1 Self The Town win condition is to eliminate all Mafia aligned players. The Mafia win condition is to eliminate all Town aligned players. The Self aligned player will have a unique win condition that varies based on the card they chose and maybe an alternate win condition of surviving to the end of the game (depending on the card). A Self aligned player who achieves their win condition before the game's end is removed from the game while play continues for the remaining players. Here's an example of what your role PM would look like if the card you had chose was Chainer's Edict:

Post subject: | DAY 1 |
Powerful Spells, Mighty Creatures, Enigmatic Planeswalkers, Beautiful Lands, and Confounding Artifacts. These are the makings of a Magic: The Gathering game. But this time the cards are different, no longer controlled by an outside entity, these cards have a mind of their own! But are they friend, or foe? You will have to decide that for yourselves; but be quick about it, lest ye find yourself with a dagger in the back... IT IS NOW DAY 1 Day 1 will last until Thursday, July 23rd, at 12:30PM Eastern Time, or until a Majority vote has been reached, whichever comes first. |

I am confirming that I have read, understood, and will blatantly violate any and all rules; except not. This sounds like it should be a fun game. Vote:NeoSilk because he was mafia last game. On serious notes: Required Day One discussion: "Hey Guys! Let's mass-Claim!" But not. I do, however, want to know if people are willing to submit the colors of their cards. I feel that giving the names of our respective cards would be too much information for people to provide honestly, but I feel colors of cards is innocent enough that people will be honest about it. Why will it help? The more information the better, and I figured this would get us more information than usual (per day one) while not completely mass-claiming. That's pretty much it for the Pro's. Obviously, there is a lean of certain abilities being in certain colors. That covers the Con's. To me, it's worth it as, again, it gives us more information to work with than usual. While we're on the topic of mass-claiming, because we all know someone is going to bring it up. My vote is no. I am always against mass-claiming. |

@Altimis: I'm going to pass on giving color identity. Each of the colors with abilities can, at times, bleed over into the other colors. Since we had the choice of naming a magic card, all cards are at our disposal. Be it creature, instance, enchantment, etc. Plus, if someone's card makes use of colors for their abilities, I'd rather not give that person such specific info allowing them to better target. After all, that play could be mafia. |

confirm anyway, agree on KoD, no sense taking the risk that mafia chose like prismatic ward or something and can get use out of knowing who's what color. |

I totally forgot about color hate cards. That's taking me way back. Being reminded of that, forget I said anything. Still against mass-claiming though. |

I don't think mass claiming will be a thing, on D1, this game. But let's wait and see what Numbers says. |

Somehow I don't feel mentally prepared to play my second game ever with both altimis and KoD. That aside, I'll give Rubik a pass given his timing, but I'm pretty wary of anyone doing "for teh lulz" voting, given all the crazy possibilities people may have as abilities. |

When we played last I was cast upon a Pirate Ship quickly sinking into the Dark Depths, in the middle of a Roil Tide, and then given a life preserver and told to swim to shore 500 miles away through the highly shark-infested waters with both arms tied behind my back, and a broken leg. I think I did well considering |

That broken link is going to be the bane of my existence this game... Into the Roil flavor text FTW! I now remember my greatest anger of playing mafia games. |
