From within the fog, Sai's voice booms out, the half elf's words edged in resolve harder than iron, on a haft of formality that you had never before heard come from his lips.

"How dare you, Iong of the Gold River, attack pilgrim's in your care?! I, Sai Yun, blade of Tsusaki, demand that you cease this unbecoming and petty assault and address us as a proper host, lest you make an enemy of me, my companions and the very Celestial Council!"

Sai Yun's words sound muffled in the thick fog. Unseen commotion in the fog and then two pins of blue light peer from the white at the paladin. "Mortal, I cannot tell if your arrogance is more like that of your father's kind, who think to bind the earth and the spirits with promises, or of your mother's kind, who dare to stop my river with their constructions." It pauses. "Perhaps your father. Like the eladrin, you think words have meaning on their own." The unseen dragon's shape shudders and a tall wave of water suddenly rises from the river and smashes into Sai Yun and the crates he stands on.

Fai Wa scrambles to his feet and grabs the pole and thrusts it into the water. With a groan, he shoves the boat to the left. Thu slams against the boat but holding onto he side, he paddles over to the hinged door of the gunwale and bangs on the side. Charopos swims over to the boat and grabs at the side, attempting to get a grip and pull himself up, but he fails.

Sai Yun make a DC 11 Strength saving throw or take 8 damage and fall prone.

It is now Swift Snake's turn.

It is through pure instinct that Swift Snake manages to avoid the incoming attack. He regains his feet grabbing his spear along the way.

As he passes in front of Zheng Sao
"Help Mei and the others get back on board!"
Better that she concentrates on Mei and the others instead of focusing on the dragon's accusations, he thinks to himself.

He climbs on the boxes and leaps in the air towards the shadowy figure.
"I will try to distract it"

With a slam, Swift Snake lands on the dragon's head and clings tightly. The dragon roars and flails, sending the boat tilting and sliding to the right again.

Mad Mei dives under and frog-style pumps her legs to launch herself to the boat. She grabs ahold of the side, where Thu was before the dragon shook it away.

Sai Yun, Chen Wu, and Hon Yin make DC 11 Dexterity saving throws or be pushed 5 feet to the right. Sai Yun has disadvantage on this roll for being in a slippery area (created by the Tidal Wave action previously).

It is now Hon Yin's turn.

Hon Yin staggers as the dragon throws it's bulk against the ship. Regaining his balance he moves across the deck, chanting as he does, a warm light enveloping his comrades. "I do not know why you chosen to attack this vessel spirit but I will give you this one chance to return to the waters. The blessings of the General of Winds guides us - we will not be stopped by you."

Hon Yin stumbles to the side due to inertia but he catches himself and moves closer to his compatriots and the dragon. The blessing feels like an uplifting wind to Sai Yun, SwiftSnake, and Chen Wu, warm and steady at their backs.

It is now Chen Wu's turn.

Still not sure about the dragon's demands, Chen Wu keeps the attemps to talk with it. "Oh sipirt of the river, let's be reasonable and talk this through like rational beings." As he speaks, he notices Mad Mei and Thu trying to climb back to the deck and extends his hand to help the girl.

"Corrupter! Profaner! Demon, you carry a crime that cannot be washed away!"

"Fai Wa! cries out Zheng Sao as steps up behind the sorcerer helping her sister, but before the man can pole the boat again, it crashes into some rocks and shudders violently. The sound of creaking and snapping wood is painful.

The dragon inhales again and lets loose another blast of water. It slams into Zheng Sao but she stays on her feet. Then, roaring, the dragon twists and turns and goes over the starboard and plunges into the water, Swift Snake still on its back.

Chen Wu, make a DC 11 Dexterity check or take 13 damage and make a DC 11 Strength check.

It is now Sai Yun's turn.

Notes:

  • If a character is holding a pole in hand, they may make a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check to push the boat to the left or right 10 feet. If a character beats this check by 5+, they may push the boat an additional 5 feet, and the same for 10+.
  • Pulling oneself up onto the boat from the river is a DC 13 Strength (Athletics) check unless the character is at the opening in the gunwale (if it is opened), which is currently at J-9 (moving on the grid as appropriate). In that case, the check is DC 10.
  • Each of the crew members have particular ways in which they can contribute. Their loyalty to the adventurers affects their choices.

Sai growls as he sees the dragon's eyes disappear below the level of the deck.

"Coward!" he cries, looking right and left for attack. The horrible crunch of the boat hitting the rocks snaps him back into focus. He dashes from the fog and sees the empty pole, sheathes his blade, runs and grabs the means of getting them off the rocks.

The boat groans as it scrapes against the stones to release, while the crew members overboard cry out in panic as the boat smacks against them. The boat lurches further to the side and there is more splashing and spluttering as those off the port side struggle.

There is a splash as Fai Wa tumbles over the gunwale as the boat lurched again but he is able to hold on to the side and pull himself back up immediately. Zheng Sao also stumble back.

Hon Yin, Sai Yun, and Chen Wu must make DC 11 Dexterity saving throws or be pushed 5 feet to the left.

It is now Swift Snake's turn.
