Zeke rises promptly, but tries to dress himself with some decorum and diligence, and is thus is slightly behind james, walking rather quietly. He stays against a wall, feeling ill at ease in the bright morning.

Mrs. Pith helps you through your morning rituals, ensuring that any improper teachings from the orphanage doesn't carry through. She is fairly lenient overall though, and restrains herself to not follow you into the bathroom, electing instead to barrage you with questions later. Afterwards, she informs you of the way to the dining hall.
The Dining Hall is a vast room, as a result of being repurposed from an old ballroom. What was once spacious dancing areas are now obstructed with long tables, and a once luxurious feel has been drowned in implementations of practicality. The ceiling of the room is draped in an impressive tapestry, depicting the history of the world (i.e. the big bang, death of the dinosaurs, subjucation of obscurity, discovery of steam and electricity, great erasure, world wars, celestial wars and interstellar wars, martian peace treaty and the completion of the ouroboros), looking more peculiar and elaborate the more you observe it.
A curious aroma wafts in the room. Unfamiliar at first, it slowly reveals nuances of well-known smells: freshly baked bread, citric apples and smoked meat. Amidst it moves an eccentric cook, preparing a table for eight.
"Too soon, little muffins. You are Candlewick's new delivery, yes? There is still time before breakfast, yet you come to watch me wrap your Christmas presents. Do you not like surprises?"

Vincent watches James, and opens his mouth to say something, but changes his mind and slowly shuts it again. he looks back and forth from the cook to the other children. his eyes begin to go wide as the voices slowly creep back into his head.

"Mrs. Pith, I'm sure? She puts roosters to shame."He leaves you, appearing pressed for time. Breakfast is still some way from ready, it seems.
Vincent
His mind runs excited thinking about how his new guests will take to the food, doing imaginary simulations on each of you expressing your delight. You sense a few tingles dancing on your taste buds for mere moments, but it doesn't amount to anything.
You can yourself judge if any other children are within the range of the effect when you use it, but if so, it's on you to inform them.

As time passes, Candlewick himself enters the room, the clocks punctuating his entrance shortly thereafter. On each side follows a younger relative, roughly around your age each. The elder (and LARGER) son has an expression of bewildered excitement, while the younger and more sleek daughter eyes you with more suspicion. They seat themselves, taking the upper half of the table. The plates of the table are now decorated with four slices of bread, carrying elegant constructions of edibles: a souffléd egg; thin slices of some smoked brown meat, twirled with green leaves; jelly with a peculiar gradient color of blue and yellow; and a layer of cheese, with small cryptic sticks spitting out. The chef himself seems intent to join you for breakfast, and invites you to take your seats.
"Where is little James (and Rebecca?), still soundly asleep? It is good they have found peace here, at least."Candlewick does not appear overly concerned at his absence.

Assuming you all remain silent and sit down for breakfast to eat, you will experience tastes unlike anything before. The bread is toasted and crunchy, with a sweet citric tinge, that dances playfully with the different assortment of flavors. Now you know where the scent of apple originated from. The soufflé is like a soothing cloud balanced against the crude bread; the smoked meat is deep and nuanced, tasting a hint of charcoal; the jam elevates the rather simple taste with a curious spritzy aftertaste; and the cheese overpowers all your taste buds with a stark, yet pleasant taste, with a tangy texture does not leave your chewing motions for moments afterwards. It is all rather hard to describe really, but it tastes beyond fantastic. It is the kind of experience that makes you question whether you ever actually had anything delicious in your life."Geseppe is no cook, he is a magician!", the man from before exclaims in excitement. You are not quite sure of the person in question, but it is a statement that is difficult to disagree with.
The atmosphere around the table is rather awkward, you can feel the weight of their stares. Candlewick looks at you with a hint of concern, perhaps hoping to be met with a smile, a hint that you are content with your new place. The chef has the face of a roller coaster, anxiously awaiting your every bite. He grimaces with joy, uncertainty, relief or sadness all according to how you react to the food, no matter how little. The girl scrutinizes you all sharply, catching a gaze of her father every now and then, uttering an inaudible sigh. At least the last person, presumably her brother, seems largely unconcerned about anything except his food. Stereotypes exist for a reason, perhaps. Candlewick breaks the silence, proposing that her daughter show you around his mansion. She smears on a good dose of charm, saying she would be glad to.

James gulps back his surprise at seeing Mrs. Pith at the top of the staircase. "Yes, m'am. Gotta go check on, umm, some clean socks. I'll just be a few minutes." James will scurry to his room as quickly as he can, and close the door behind himself. Once in the quiet and privacy of his room, he'll call to his insect allies once again.

If his allies come to him, he'll ask, "I promise to stand ready to aid you in whatever ways I can. I'd like to ask a question. I don't trust the cook, is his food harmful? He scares me."

Vincent sits down to eat. the voices are mumbling something, but thankfully they remain indistinct for now. he chews his food slowly, unaccustomed to the idea of enjoyable meals and not quite sure if he can trust it, but it's hard to deny that the food seems good. he finds himself staring at Candlewick's son throughout the meal, unsure of why exactly but unable to look away.

Zeke, aware of the odd behavior of most people at the table, tries to remain the proper youth at breakfast, barely containing (and not disguising) his enjoyment of the food. As both the proposed tour guide of the new residents of Candlewick Manor and the breakfast guest whose attitude lacks an obvious source, compared to a chef's pride or the master of the house's desire for appreciation, Zeke attempts to puzzle out anything he can of her odd and seemingly harsh mannerisms.
(If this were D&D, in short, I'd be trying to roll "sense motive". Is it honest distaste with us on personal levels? Is it a matter of circumstance? I think this would probably be Brains > Notice. Maybe Face > Connive to detect conniving? It would be the same dice either way.)
Thoughts of a faintly remembered voice cause Zeke to think a little harder to puzzle it out.
Notice Roll (Brains 4 + Notice 0 + Echo of A girl's faint voice: "I'll be waiting" 3 = 7 dice)

The butterfly from earlier, addressing herself as Trish, comes fluttering in. "Geseppe you mean? He has a reputation for putting a lot of strange things in his food, justifiably so. Seems to know his stuff though, and I've yet to hear anyone disagree. Can't say I'm fond of him for cooking my sister a month ago, but she had it coming the way she acted. I'm sure she tasted great in the end."
Do note that you will be about, say, 5 minutes late for breakfast if you choose to go now.

The young girl appears to be brooding over something, bothered in some way by her father's mannerisms.

James enters the scene around the time of Candlewick's proposal."Ah, there you are! I was just talking about having my Wisteria show you all around the premises. What do you think? Oh, and come eat with us, it tastes delightful."
