"As you wish," shrugged Hexion, shaking off Luka's grip and letting the branch fall to the floor. He considered showing Luka the scrolls, but things could get hairy if they started questioning where he got them. In the end, he decided against it.

"Well, Red doesn't seem to be in any mood to be turning back," he pointed out, then turned to Kitar. "It's early yet to sundown. What says you about finding those three again to get some more details?"

Dev looked to the group then back towards the town, letting out a breath of discontent he moved back towards the group. "Unfortunately I'm going to have to agree with Red here, we don't have the means to catch them and we also have our own job to do. Lets hope the town's own defenses is better then the birdies assault." The human spoke in a somewhat annoyed tone as he began to walk forward along the path, a hand reaching back over to the silver axe before dropping to his sides.

Luka shrugged. "Well, we could split the party, but I seem to recall an old sailor's ditty that heavily advises against that course of action. I guess if one dude can ostensibly wipe out ten bandits in the span of a few hours they should be good, although I'd feel better if anybody had a way to send a warning. But c'est la vie I guess. Or at least I hope." She smiled uneasily and started following the others.

With worries of avian assaults to put behind you, the group begins to move towards Lance Rock. It will be about three hours of walking, but with Kitar's navigation from above, well, it's pretty darn easy to find. It's a stone that sticks about twenty-five feet out of the ground a few miles off of the road, and with a fairly clear day like today, it's hard to miss. Lance Rock is a narrow, twenty-five-foot menhir of bare, gray rock that juts eastward at a sixty-degree angle. The menhir is gray granite, unlike the surrounding limestone. A few hundred feet south of the stone is a ravine choked with brush. A trail leads into the brush near a neatly-painted sign that reads, in Common:

Come no closer
lest you catch
the disfiguring plague
that afflicts me!
The Lord of Lance Rock

The trail continues down to a cave mouth. Another warning sign with the same message is posted by the opening. The cave mouth opens into darkness from which a breezes blows, carrying the faint odor of death.

Luka thought for a moment as everyone stood in silence. "Well, we haven't contracted leprosy yet, which means the first sign was obviously lying, so I see no reason to assume this one is any more honest." She quickly glanced around to see if there were any creatures waiting to ambush the party, then cautiously approached the mouth of the cave to see what she could see from the entrance.

A look of frustration sits upon his features as Iados studies first the sign posts and then the entrance to the cave beyond. "Plague or not I gave our word to the townsfolk that I would investigate this threat. If there is a plague here I can't demand that you follow me but for what it is worth it is the right thing to do." He moves to the edge of the cave, drawing his mace and glancing into the murky darkness, hoping his eyes will reveals something that the others fail to spot.

Though for a moment he considers simply ignoring the birdmans tired attempts at subtlety Iados let out a heavy sigh when he realized he actually had a point. "Very well crow - if one of us must proceed then I shall be the one. Stay back and try not to get yourselves killed while I'm gone." Readying his weapon the tiefling moves slowly into the mouth of the cave, edging steadily towards the corpse and trying to determine what exactly killed it.

As you move into the cave, the stench of death grows stronger. You stand near the body on the ground and examine it, attempting to determine a cause of death. There are no obvious signs of trauma, no lacerations on the body, and aside from appearing a bit sallow, the skin looks in tact. There is no blood on the ground by the body, though there are some blowflies buzzing around. As you finish your inspection, you do see a scrap of parchment peeking out from under the body, though you'd have to move the body to acquire it.

"Hmm..." Iados' pauses for a moment considering his options. Sighing in frustration he flips his glaive around, using the blunt end to prod the corpse a few times in the side while staying a good distance from any potential reprisals for such actions. Assuming no movement from the thing he proceeds to roll it over, both to get a better view of it and hoping to be able to retrieve the parchment.

OOC: Everyone, roll initiative and select a square on the map. Iados must be adjacent to the square marked Corpse. Unless anyone said they went in as well, you must begin outside on the green areas.

Hexion was yawning all the way to the cave. The ominous warnings did perk him up a little, though not by much. After some discussion, seeing Iados enter the cave, Hexion peeked into the darkness of the cave after. Soon enough, he heard Iados calling out a warning from ahead. Hexion fetched a dagger from his bag and readied himself for battle at E14
