Sadly, you'll have to go to bed without cake. Obed leans back in his chair, giving a mild grunt that may have been a masked belch from all he has had to drink thus far in the night. He begins to slowly relate the various locations of Red Larch to his compatriots, noting the locations and names as he goes through them slowly. Some of them each of you will recognize, others are fairly new to your ears, but you'll each be able to remember the names of the shops and various locations around the town as Obed drones on and on. As he talks about Mellikho Stoneworks, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a crystal orb and places it on the table, stating that it was a token of good faith that he would look into mysterious stone-masked figures that show up in the evening. Obed also notes that while he made no promises that they would look into it, and that there is currently no reward that is being offered for any heroes who would be willing to rid the quarry of these masked individuals.
As Obed continues to talk, the crystal orb on the table begins to shake a bit. As everyone looks at it, it unfolds into a small two armed monster with a lashing tail (looks similar to a Frostling). A few of the other patrons take notice and shout out, grabbing the attention of Thirty-Four. Thirty-Four walks over to the table and takes a look at the creature, who is now "sitting" on its tail and facing Obed, cocking its head from side to side as it makes some clicking sounds. It's black and lidless eyes never seem to leave Obed's as it slowly waves back and forth, sitting in place the whole time. Thirty-Four stares at the creature for a moment longer before straightening up and addressing the group as a whole.
"Just how did you summon this?" Thirty-Four asks Obed. "It's an elemental, but not of the traditional elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth. This is an AEther Elemental, a creature formed of pure energies, crystallized and given sentience. I've only heard about them before, but never actually seen one summoned. They rarely show up on this plane of existence, much less in someone's control." He looks from the Elemental's gaze to Obed's face, and a quizzical look crosses over Thirty-Four's face. "It seems to know you, or have bonded. If you were carrying it, it may have formed a physical bond and taken you on as its familiar. Well, that's how these things view the world at least, much like how a cat views its owner as its servant. It's not necessarily true, but you can't talk it out of it. If it is yours now, I don't know what will happen, but it could be a useful tool." Thirty-Four stares a bit longer at the creature, then walks over to the bar, tosses some coin on the table, and walks out the door. Iados can be seen scowling a little bit as he watches Thirty-Four exit the building.
Dev, suddenly remembering his own voice after that strange event, relates his day as well, though it's more or less what Luka had found out. He shows off his full silver throwing axe, but everyone seems a bit preoccupied by the creature on the table to pay much attention. Everyone will get up to leave, and the Elemental will jump as well, grasping onto Obed's clothing, climbing up and sitting on his shoulder. Any attempts to remove it are met with a hiss, and it's 'skin' seems to be made of solid crystal. If Obed tries to remove his clothing, the creature will move onto Obed's body. Either way, it seems to stay for the time being, and everyone heads over to The Swinging Sword for the evening. As four of you go to grab some sleep, Hexion and Iados stay up a bit longer. Iados mentions needing to talk to someone, so Hexion sits down in the dining room to wait for his friend.IadosIados notices Ghileeda is no where to be seen, but neither is any other employee of The Swinging Sword. He stalks through the Inn for a bit, until he finds the door to the stables out back. Ghileeda is there, gently tending to a horse. Iados walks up to her and asks about Amycipus' evening. Ghileeda will express her doubts about allowing her daughter to take on missions of the town, but that Amycipus has gone on five so far, and never has returned home with so much as a scratch. She'll tell you her daughter is a good child, but showed early signs that she holds a lot of magical power inside her small frame, and soon after Thirty-Four came into town. She had purchased Thirty-Four's time as an instructor for her daughter, as they have few mages who travel through their town, and even fewer who make it their home. She shows Iados back into the Inn, and quietly opens the door to her daughter's room to show she is quite well and sleeping soundly. She tanks Iados for his concern, but tells him she has to go and quickly makes her way to her own adjacent room and closes the door. Iados heads back to Hexion.Hexion and IadosIados returns to the main hallway, and Hexion joins him as he walks out of the Inn, continuing their walk around from earlier in the day. Hexion asks Iados to walk with him as he goes to find the Evles of the town. They will spend a total of two hours walking around and asking about the Evles of the town, but will come up empty handed. The best the two of them will get is that the Evles live in the North-East of town around the fields and often prefer the fields over the rest of the town. Sadly, due to it being quite late at night, everyone is in their homes with the candles out. No one will answer if Hexion bangs on the doors, and he is not able to gain access to any house right now. His personal vendetta will have to wait for another day.
Continuing around the town, you two will find little of note, most of the villagers have gone to bed and aren't moving around Red Larch. As the two of you make your way around the town, you'll spy a few people on their porches having a smoke after a long day, or drinking some ale. When approached, they'll make pleasant conversation, but don't know anything about the troubles Red Larch seems to be under. Even the quarry seems deserted for the night, no shady folks in stone-masks around. The two of you will make a circle around the majority of the town before making your way back to The Swinging Sword. Hexion will eventually give a yawn and head off to bed, leaving Iados alone around the town.IadosGoing back to your patrol on your own, you head down The Long Road. The town is incredibly silent as you make your way around, and no one approaches you. You head over to The Market, where you're pretty sure Kitar had been, and you see the open field with outhouses, tents and a fire-pit set up. Nothing seems particularly out of the ordinary, but you do hear some very heavy snoring. Inspecting, you find a half-orc sound asleep inside a tent, hugging a pickle in his right hand, holding it right up to his nose, breathing heavily in and out. Chuckling to himself, Iados heads back out into the cool night air when some movement in the trees to the South. Iados immediately heads over there to inspect, weapon held at the ready. The woods are quiet when you arrive, no hint of movement anywhere, though you swear you saw something out there. Searching around, you do come upon an item, somewhat buried in the bushes outside The Market. Reaching down, you pull up a brown, leather bag. Opening it, you will find four small gems, a pink one, a green one, a orange one and a red one. Each of them seems to have a foggy quality to it, and the fog seems to move and swirl a little bit, though careful inspections are rather difficult in the darkness. You'll be able to inspect them further in the daylight.
Heading away from The Market, you'll pass by Tantur Smithy, with its lights still on and the sound of a hammer meeting molten steel ringing out loud and clear in the quiet night. Heading inside. you too will meet Eldras Tantur, working hard into the early hours of the day forging armor and weaponry. Some pleasant chatter and a few well placed inquiries, will have him telling a bit of his life story to you as he works, the heat of the shop making his brow glisten with sweat. He lives in the shop with his wife Laefra, and their three children, a son and two daughters. Both he and his children are skilled smiths in their own rights, though the children still have a lot to learn for their craft. Eldras will take notice of your pouch of gems and inquire about them, though he knows little about gems. He'll tell you he knows of a story about mages who could trap the body and souls of other living beings in clear crystal gems, and then release said creatures by breaking the gems, often by smashing them with the heel of a boot. The gems would turn different colors, indicating to the mage what was inside each gem, and the bigger the gem, the stronger the creature. Eldras guesses based on their size, that the gems you have each are worth about four hundred gold, if they are what he thinks they are. There is no way to be sure until the gems are broken, at which point they may simply be ornate gems, or they may be powerful tools.
Heading out of the shop, the cool air outside strikes you hard as the heat of the shop was fairly stifling, even for you. The town is beginning to wake up, vendors moving carts into the streets to sell fresh produce, shops unlocking their door and opening them to welcome customers, and general sounds of movement can be heard all around the town. Iados will head back to The Swinging Sword, where everyone will be waking up and food is being served in the dining room for all the patrons.EveryoneOnce the sun breaks the treeline, the five of you who were asleep will wake up, take an hour to do any and all daily rituals (prayer, study, practice, etc.) and head out into the dining room to meet up with Iados. A small but filling meal has been laid out for you. Oatmeal, a loaf of bread each, a pot of tea, a basket of boiled and shelled eggs and some honey. The honey surprises you since it's quite the luxury item and fairly expensive, and this town doesn't seem large enough to house a bee farm within its walls. While not an extensive spread by any means, it is everything you'll need to get your day going. Everyone eats their fill of whatever they desire, and then gear up to head out of the town. A short while later, the six of you will find yourselves on the Kheldell Path heading West out of the town and towards adventure. ~SE++
