So, one of my options was miller. Choosing miller would have given me an essentially limitless number of negative points. This is important because of the dynamic it creates:
-If mafia points work as proposed (and as suggested by the set-up thread), then choosing the miller role would guarantee that a player gets a town role. (The miller would have no points with which to enter the raffle.)
-If mafia points work contrary to expectation, then choosing miller would all but guarantee that a player gets a scum role.
Given that the entire purpose of the miller role is to create a suspicious townie (and/or to weaken the cop role), it is enormously unlikely that HW would outright obligate a miller to be mafia. That's too much effort for a role that wouldn't do anything.
As for the vanilla options, it says in the game rules that all of us will receive a default vanilla option for each of our sets of roles. Like certain other players, I received at least one additional vanilla option beyond those two, but the point distribution(s) suggest rather strongly that the purpose of these options is to provide players with the ability to influence their point totals. It isn't strange or indicative that they would different.
I also had the option for the negative infinity point miller role thing.
I did not take it.
