Zau Gwai pauses and gives Alois a more thorough inspection. "Dancer huh? Strong guy like you? Seems a waste." He shakes his head a little and chuckles before leaning in and whispering. "We're looking for a girl named Hua. Worked here apparently. You know her?"

"Well, the worst foot and leg injuries I've seen have been on dancers, not soldiers or thugs," shrugs Alois. At the mention of Hua's name, he seems surprised. "Hua? Really? Yeah, she lived next door to me, actually. I didn't know her well though, she was new, only joined maybe seven months ago. We haven't seen her in days. Who sent you? Her parents?"

"Her mate - little human called Ping. Said she had gone missing."Zau Gwai scratches his chin and then shrugs. "About all we know. Wasn't sure she even existed."

"Gau si, Ping? We thought she probably ran away with the bastard. He is bad news, but they have a fools' love. Well, nobody here knows what happened to her, as far as I know, if she really didn't run away with Ping. Maybe she went back to her parents'?"
"Damn Zau, you're killing my moment here!"Lendir stops for a moment, pondering what to say next. "But I guess you're right. Look Hong, you don't have to worry. Those are my partners and friends. We're searching for a girl named Hua. She used to live and perform here, but went missing. Her boyfriend thinks she might be in danger and asked for our help. Do you know anything about her?"

"That bastard, Ping? I guess he didn't actually sell her to the tong to pay off his debts. Well, she first missed a show three or four days ago. Ms. Collinghurst was furious but nobody could find Hua, so Sunan took her place in the show." Hong disappears briefly into her room and reappears with more pins to finish doing up her hair, with a closed fan hanging from her wrist by a looped string.
"Ping came around that night and the night after to whine at us but nobody has seen her. Her stuff has not moved; her roommates have not seen her. The owner is sending people to dump her stuff out and make room for someone else tomorrow."

Lendir looks worried as Hong tells what she knows. "I think we should check Hua's belongings for clues. What do you say, guys? Maybe Zau can get her scent. That's how it works, right?" The half-elf asks his friends, only half joking. "I'm sure Alois can get us there." He finally looks at the half-orc, inquisitive.

Alois turns to Lendir, his eyebrows raised. He had not heard Lendir's request, having been focused on his conversation with Zau Gwai.
"I have a key," interrupts Hong. In the hand from which a fan dangles, she holds out a small copper key. "She is seven doors down, the one with the butterfly. She's the left bunk on the bottom. Alois and I have to get back." She drops the key in Lendir's hand.
"Should we just leave them here?"
"Yeah, it's fine. Not like Wumei or Guo have anything worth stealing. Just make sure to lock up when you go and you can drop the key off with Alois."
"Okay. I'll be in the workshop, where you saw me first. Make sure to be silent when moving around downstairs." The door clicks behind Hong as she comes out fully, and Alois and Hong start towards the stairs.
Lendir barely manage to stammer "thank you" when Hong gave him the key. Before she leaves with Alois, though, he gathers courage and turns to her. "Hong, take care of yourself." He pauses for a moment, hesitating. "I miss you..." He finishes, hoping that the girl stops. As the duo exits the room, the half-elf holds the key in a closed fist, waiting for a response from his friends.

Soon shakes her head at Lendir. We've got a job to do, so, keep your head, yes? We can hope that her stuff is untouched, but what's the likelihood that there will be a clue. She starts to look a bit sullen. Well, we're here anyway, we might as well start looking.
When the adventurers walk down the hall, they quickly come upon a door with a butterfly made with paint, pressed gold foil, and dried flower petals. The patterns of the butterfly's wings emerge as stylized characters for "butterfly", 蝴蝶.
"That nose of yours able to do much in here Zau Gwai? Or too many people and too many chemicals?"The tiefling asks as they approach the door with the butterfly print on it. He checks both ways down the hall to see if there were still many people about and waits on Lendir to use the key.

The lock clicks easily around the key and the door creaks inward once loosed.
The room is only a little smaller than the adventurers' own rooms at home, but it's shared by four people. Two thin bunk beds are pushed against the far corners. A small chair sits against the far wall between the beds, a slim book wedged under one of the legs, and a high shelf is nailed against the wall at the level of the top bunks. In front of the beds, against the side walls, facing each other, are two dressers.
The symmetry is broken by the mess on the right side of the room. The bunk beds on the right are strewn with clothes, bags, and wigs, as is the floor around them and the dresser hangs open, clothes haphazardly slung over the doors The beds on the left seem neatly made and empty, though the top bunk is above the eye line for those who are not Zau Gwai. When the door is pulled close again to reveal the dresser on the left, it is also hanging open though the hanging clothes are neat.
"That nose of yours able to do much in here Zau Gwai? Or too many people and too many chemicals?"
"Ha! Only one way to find out! Err they mention which stuff is Hau's? Certainly would speed things along. Bottom left bunk right?" Humming loudly as he sets about his task Zau Gwai makes his way to the bunk. Moving over to the bed he carefully lifts and inspects the sheets, lifting them and running the fabric between his hands, slowly inspecting the edges and sniffing at them as he them. He follow this by gripping the edges of mattress, running his hands again across the edges and inspecting the stitching, before finally pressing an ear to it and shaking the thing gently.
Apparently still not satisfied he removes the mattress entirely and inspects the wood of the bed, tapping his claws across its length as he moves before dropping to all fours and forcing as much of his head under the bed as he can and setting about testing the gain of the floor boards.

Perception Check:16 (+5 if Scent is a factor). Consider this a general overview of the bunk with specific notice paid to any potential hiding places that could be used to store objects without too much trouble (repeatedly opened stitching, loosed floorboards that sort of thing).

Lendir stores the key in his pocket and stays at the room entrance, looking for anything suspicious outside of it. Better let the professional do his work. he thinks, while standing guard.

As Soon rifles through the clothes in the dresser on the left, it is clear that they've been rifled too recently as well. The dresses, jackets, and other clothing items all seem generally well-tailored and made from expensive fabrics. Soon finds a blue-threaded dress, the same one she last saw in Ping's picture of Hua. As Soon passes her hands over a more traditional dress, more appropriate to formal events than the younger, hipper styles of the other dresses, she feels a hard bump in one of the sleeves. If she pulls at a loose thread, the lining of the sleeve of the dress opens a little to drop a gold spiral into Soon's hand. It looks like jewelry.
Soon may roll History or Streetwise to recognize what this piece of jewelry is.
Zau Gwai Perception
As Zau Gwai finally sticks his head under the bed, he immediately bumps into a locked box, about fifteen inches long, ten inches wide, and ten inches deep. It is a heavy box and in the light, it is clearly well-made and it looks lighter than it is. Gold filigree and jade pieces carved into human figures decorate the top of the box, creating a scene of a tea ceremony in a garden. There is no key for the box in sight.
Lendir Perception
Lendir keeps an eye and an ear out, but so far, he only hears his friends searching the room thoroughly.

The annoyance at banging his head for the third time today quickly washes away as Zau Gwai finds what he was looking for. A wide grin sets across his toothy maw and, for just a second, his thoughts drift back to his early days in the city and he wonders just how easily it would be to conceal his prize within his coat. Shaking away the memories (and banging his head yet again) he withdraws from beneath the bed and turns to face the others - in his hands rests a beautifully decorated gold and jade lock box.
"As I thought. You live with three others you need somewhere to keep your secret things. Not what I would have done - the box attracts too much attention - but a good lock can keep away many a finger." He chuckles to himself as he fishes around in his coat pockets and produces a fist full of bent wires and thin metal rods. "Of course few fingers are as good as mine." His chuckles bloom into full laughter as he lowers himself onto the edge of the bed, rests the box on his knees and sets about attempting to spring the lock.
