hopefully at least this will help convince people that claim order does matter. if I'd gone last I could've made a claim that gave you guys 0 information, but instead I tried to grab some town pants for the 50/50 split these things usually end up as, and going first made me the literal only possible scumspect day 1.

So is this common with Deathy? People post, we use maths, game is won on turn 1? There hardly any paranoid shouting at all.

Dethy is more of a logic puzzle than a mafia game.

well, partly. the claiming and the math, yes. you rarely win game one. you only got that because I made a risky play and rolled a critical failure. but yeah, Dethy is generally more logically driven than regular mafia.

Well, in the first game there was a bit of paranoia, because a Townie did bluff. That created some doubt. But it really depends on who people target. We got lucky here, with the paranoid cop and the insane cop both targeting the same person.

yeah that helped, as did the sane cop looking at the same person as the mafia did. if you'd been the sane cop I actually would've had a pretty good shot. if you'd found me to be scum then both Jay and Garren were more likely scumspects than me.

Damn....yeah, if mafia posts last, they can make it so it's not 100% sure who it is, but, I still think that we need to either have the roles be random, or have an extra slot...something...

Either way, since I like to vote: Vote Razor

one interesting twist that would help shift some power back to the mafia is to give them an n0 kill.

Something has to be done. I mean, there's plenty of times that you don't know 100% who is mafia (or killer or whatever) after on D1...but I think you'd almost always narrow it down to 2...so, with this, mafia needs some help.

N0 kill would do it, but, then you get 1 player who literally does nothing during the game. He joins, is told he's a cop, and dies before posting. Which is OK with me, but, I'd rather come up with something else.

Random roles. 1 mafia and 0-4 of each of the other roles. So you can't eliminate people based on that.

7 players - 2 mafia one of each of the 4 cop roles and 1 extra random one.

With any of them, you could add in a no-lynch rule. Basically, "at the end of the day, all players with the most votes are lynched, if no players have any votes on them, it's an automatic mafia win".

I'm sure there are others - there has to be some, otherwise it kind of feels like dethy is broken.

Dethy is almost entirely a mathematics game, more than a mafia game.
It does depend on who people pick during their first investigation, but after that it's all working with numbers.

One thing I wanted to say, when I lied last game, it was essentially for the same reason razorborne mentioned about the voting order.
If the mafia goes last, they have the most information and can screw with us. If they go first, they can't. I was thinking that the mafia would go last, or close to last, and thus changed my vote to give the mafia incorrect information to work with.

I'd argue it worked because it narrowed it down to either me or him for the lynch :p

One way to better balance the game is to reduce the time of the day. It will give the town less of a chance to strategize/talk numbers, but they will still be able to post reads? So instead of 120 hours, maybe 72 hours?

I wanted to make the day shorter, but there was the weekend in the middle and I didn't want to have someone not post because he was away during the weekend and didn't manage to access the thread the day after.

I counted it as less than five days and slightly more than 3 days, but if this problem with weekends is resolved I could see 48-72 hours for day, maybe even 24 if we can be sure that everyone could post in that time frame.

I don't think you should try to control the balance of power through day length. day length should be approximately as long as you expect discussion to continue. otherwise you're punishing the town for things like having people in different time zones.

yeah sometimes you claim first, then it turns out the sane cop investigated the person you claimed to have and the insane and paranoid cops looked at the same person. pretty rough.
