JD made an extremely good point about my status in that game towards the end. I was lucky enough to recognize that and play the part I stepped into.
That said, I saw where Rag said those games are determined by popularity as far as advancement is concerned. I don't hold any thought of winning in the most absolute sense (for the competition) since my only goal is to make sure NGA is represented. Beyond that, anything goes.
Edit:
I read through this thread when I saw it thinking it was current with its first posts. From what I recall, the format is that everyone in the game votes on who they thought had played particularly well and the top two advance. Also, if I am recalling correctly, there was something about how people would be matched up that (hopefully) haven't played with each other before. I imagine that, after two previous years, people will definitely know one another if the communities continued sending the same people. If that's the case, I'm just a small fish (ha fish pun thx LM) going into a big pond, unless someone else really wants to go and fight for the NGA's nomination.
Haha, so this whole championship concept is, in a way, of course somewhat elitist. But it's obviously just for fun -- the main purpose of it all is to bring together communities. The past two seasons have really strengthened bonds between people and communities. There have been countless cross-community games, and 3 new romantic relationships even exist because of this series.
As for the popularity contest thing, different sites value different things, so there is a risk that some sites might feel very betrayed by the post-game votes, but for the past two seasons there's been a widespread agreement that the correct candidates have been voted through from each game. In addition to this, there will be a wildcard game; A jury of former finalists are deciding these wildcards, so there's hope still even if your representative doesn't make it through from the qualifying game.
