Greetings!

I am seeking a place to do my PbP GMing and am attempting to determine which site I would best be a match for. I have experiencing playing on other sites, however I have struggled to find players who were looking for my style of play.

The most relevant aspect of my GMing style is a very high degree of intellectual focus. I provide enigmas to solve that are of much greater subtlety and intricacy than are, in my experience, found in most PbP games and/or published adventures. Often I present moral questions of equal or greater depth, although I can run campaigns without the moral thought-provocation if that is what the player-base is in the mood for.

Due to the difficulties I have had in the past driving home the intensity of the aforementioned factors let me provide some examples from various genres of fiction:
1.) "Fair-Play" Sherlock Holmes mysteries, NOT most Batman.
2.) Star-Trek (especially The Original Series), NOT Star Wars.
3.) More Hard Sci-Fi, NOT Sword and Sorcery (in terms of the level of world-building and other thought involved... still a Fantasy setting).

If you fail because of one sentence that you forgot out of 1,000 words of description, that means I have the level of detail about right, and you need to pay more attention. Assuming EVERYTHING is a clue or hint, especially things that don't seem relevant. For this purpose the difference between a clue and a hint is that a clue can be part of a strictly logical reasoning process, where-as a hint merely draws attention to a particular possible avenue of investigation. So if you meet an NPC with an unusual skill set that you could enlist as a "consulting expert" to your "detectives" that would be a hint, rather than a clue.

Okay, so that is the challenge of my campaigns... but how would I suggest that one rise to this challenge? Number One Rule of my campaigns: If you have a question, ASK IT. If, at any point in time you do not have a question, BE ACTIVELY THINKING OF ONE.

Are there players here who would be interested in such a campaign? Any that are currently running or soon to start that I might be able to join as a player?

The answer to your question is likely 'no', although it depends on how many players you want. The RPG population here is fairly barren these days, even if I'd like to get proven wrong.

A three, two, or even one player game can work in theory... IN THEORY. Without a critical mass people to bounce ideas between, the problem-solving becomes that much more difficult.

Edit: Assuming it doesn't work out here, does anyone have a suggestion for what site would be my best bet to try next?

I'd be interested, but the RPG community here has been very quiet for a while. I don't think it would be *impossible* to drum up a good campaign -- if you want to try PMing folks on the player registry with a pitch might be appropiate given that I'm not sure how many scroll down in a sort of vicious cycle -- but I feel like you might be best served trying a site with a large population and a focus on RPGs (rpg.net comes to mind). I'm very glad that you thought of us and really do wish you the best of luck, and also think you make the right choice being straightforward about the style of game you intend to run..

I have been slammed by a cold and also thinking through my response (including if any response was necessary).

PMing people on the player registry and RPG.NET both sound like suggestions worth trying when I am recovered. I shall PROBABLY do both.

Ugh... I used to be SO much more reliable about keeping people updated on my status, and still do with regards to actually running/playing in games.

I feel a bit hypocritical given how big a deal I make about this sort of thing when running a game.

Consider this effort OFFICIALLY on hiatus until further notice.
