I'm DMing an IRL 4e campaign with three of my old D&D buddies, which is an odd party number to run a campaign, but it's only going to be over two days, and then might be something I revisit later. The players have all expressed intense annoyance with the "roles" of 4e (ie Defender, Striker, Healer, etc.) and basically said it's a crappy rip off of WoW and if they wanted to play WoW they'd play WoW. Basically, I think everyone wants to be some form of a striker, based on some version of a historical figure--for example, one player wants to be a dragonborn sorcerer/monk hybrid. I think the hybrid rules suck, and was wondering if anyone had any decent alternative suggestions for creating hybrid characters?

Ah yes. Everyone remembers Fisty McBurninator, the Dragonborn Sorcerer/Monk who defeated Hitler at the end of WW2. Your version of history is less accurate but far more awesome then mine.

Sorry I haven't got anything to say on topic that line just amused me too much to not say anything.

The player claims it's some sort of Japanese mythological figure. Honestly, I don't care, we're just going to be drinking and rolling dice, but a trio of strikers is a recipe for a bouquet of character deaths.

Honestly depending on what exactly it is your planning to throw at them three strikers isn't the worst thing in the world. For all the attempts at 'balanced party mechanics' introduced in 4th Ed I've seen more then a few teams that did wonders while missing roles entirely. I remember specifically a team of three strikers and a leader just devastating everything I could possibly throw at them (to the point I had to start custom building monsters just to give them a challenge).
