Interesting that "will not need the MM or DMG to run a campaign. Or the PH or Starter Set to make a character"

I can't quite place my finger on what is is but yeah something just feels off about those covers. They look like posters someones scribbled a name over. I mean the art-work on some of them is nice (Tiamat one especially) but yeah they just look odd to me.

It's the typography. I think the typography is a little old school for the more contemporary quality art covers.

I went back and found that you can click through to see the covers in bigger size and the covers look better, maybe because the art is darker.

Its like they too current art and then said "You know what will make this edition feel retro? Text from 1e, slap it on there!"

I'll read through the whole article as I have time and post more thoughts.

I like how clean it is.

I guess it's "clean" looking, but it lacks a lot of information that's usually there, like how you calculated your AC and such.

It looks like a Red Box style sheet, like it's meant to be picked up and played, not a full character sheet.

I guess, I just prefer to see a bit more of the info.

I like that it has four boxes dedicated to roleplaying your character.

I like that it has a dragon humping the characters name. But yeah I agree that it looks more like a pre-built then an example of a 'build-your-own character' type sheet.

Also did they change how Attributes work since that last play-test or is that sheet just showing the bonuses? Because if that's not the case this guy has like 20 strength and 18 Constitution without any real negatives. Also 14 Charisma on a Fighter - isn't that a sign of the apocalypse?

I'm surprised at the skill list...it seems lacking

Post subject:  Re: D&D 5TH EDITION RELEASE SCHEDULE

Skill list looks about the same as the 4E one - few names are different obviously but most of the skills are still there in some form or another.

Yeah 4e chopped it down a ton and 5e saw no reason to change it.

From a player stand point I like it cause I dont have to worry about skills as much as I did in 3.5 I can still be sorta good at several things rather than being a fighter who is literally good at nothing but intimidation. As a DM it just means I continue my 4e habit of making my players clarify.

"I roll perception"
"Okay, what are you doing? Check for traps? Sniffing the air? Examine something closely?"
"I want to scan the room for any sign of traps and to listen for sounds of anyone in the building"
"Ok roll"

You're looking at the saving throws, which are boosted by proficiency. He has 16 Strength and 15 Constitution.

I don't mind the reduction of skills except for the Knowledge skills. I think it was a lot better having characters that specifically knew about different aspects of life rather that a couple very broad ones.

One of the games I'm in on GitP allows for a choice of profession as a skill and you can use that to make knowledge rolls in a lot of situations.
