I missed Intellect Devourer was a CR 2 creature. It's kind of a blowout.

Hows that?

It has an effective save or die effect against anyone without a great Intelligence score. Since it can detect intelligent creatures from 300 feet, it seems like it can hunt down your fighter pretty easily and then your fighter can't be saved except with spells you don't have at level 2.

The MM comes out Friday but time for just one more, the Rust Monster!!

What did they do to it's face?! Rust Monsters were adorable! Why would they do this!

CUTE BABY! I'm surprised they dropped its aberration typing.

Still nothin' on the fiendish/fey template front? I'm just wondering because of familiars.

Dread Gazeabo is doing a flip through of the MM on his twitch but I wont be able to stream it from over here.

Otherwise the book comes out day after tomorrow so I'm looking forward to seeing a ton of the stuff that hasnt even been hinted at yet.

Sad Manticores are only CR 3. They're fairly iconic bad beasties.

From what I understand and have seen so far that seems to be endemic in the MM; a huge number of creatures have been dramatically reduced in power (or at least in CR) to fit into the 1-4 CR range. I'm not opposed to the idea of fighting more iconic beasties at a lower level (gods know I got tired of fighting nothing but kobolds, goblins and undead at that level) but it seems to be leaving the higher levels a little anemic.

It was ok. People were being annoying and kept correcting his pronunciation of monster names. Most of the art is really great. Some of it sucks (spectre, flameskull, etc.) and some of it could be a little bit better (owlbear, werewolf, and kuo toans come to mind). I'm just gonna stop trying to find out stuff ahead of time since I'm grabbing a copy Friday.

I wont be able to get mine till the end of October...

Or rather if I do get one I wont see it until end of October. I may hold off and just get both MM and DMG at the same time or order all three if theres some sort of package deal.
