a: Unless you are adventuring in 'Malakith the Mad's Depository of Cursed Magical Items'. Then you should probably not activate anything. Or indeed touch anything.

Lawful Good characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin when they refuse to aid in your battle against he Evil Overlord because 'murder is immoral and illegal' and instead try to convince him to re-think his evil plans.

Neutral Good characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin when they delay the quest to aid every orphan, widow and vagrant with a sob story, thus allowing the Evil Overlord to solidify his power hold on the world.

Chaotic Good characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin when their constant disregard of the laws causes the guard to have to take action against the party, thus providing the Evil Overlord the distraction he was waiting for to strike.

Lawful Neutral characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin when they refuse to oppose the Evil Overlord because he has diplomatic immunity.

True Neutral characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin when they decide they don't actually have a personal stake in the battle against the Evil Overlord and instead go home and watch TV.

Chaotic Neutral characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin when they have the entire party arrested for assaulting the king because 'I felt like being a dick today'

Lawful Evil characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin as they refuse to battle the Evil Overlord directly, instead preferring to use the overhanging threat of the EO to work themselves into a position of power and steadily erode the rights of the people in exchange for protecting them.

Neutral Evil characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin as they betray the party, join the Evil Overlord and, once all opposition has been crushed, lead a coup to dethrone him and become the new Evil Overlord.

Chaotic Evil characters will inevitably lead the land to ruin because they decided to just murder everyone within a three mile radius because 'that orphan looked at me funny'. The Evil Overlord will be welcomed as a hero when he accidentally ends up killing the party.
