Depending on server economy, WoW tokens go for between 20 and 30 thousand gold. With enough max level characters, and the number is not terribly high, getting 1 per month to make WoW pay for itself would be trivial, even with only a modicum daily upkeep. I'm not sure I can recommend it though. I keep playing WoW, but I often question WHY. I think it's just that Blizzard has found the short circuit in my brain -- the completionist/achievement hunter madness that tells me "Don't stop! You need to do this one thing fifty times to get your shiny staff that wold have been cool two expansions ago."

i started playing again and my buddy says that treasure hunting followeres is the way to go for passively generating gold on followers he says he gets 1000g per day and i've got four level 100 toons so if his numbers are accurate that is 4000g a day which is like a month of wow each week wow

That's pretty accurate. You need the Inn Level 3 for that, to recruit multiple followers with the Treasure Hunter trait and get treasure missions, but Inn 3 is all you need (barracks 3 for 5 more total followers helps as well)

i was going to get rid of my inn on my druid for the pvp building once i got avianna's feather though, so now i need to decide whether to get rid of my spirit tower or just hold off on pvp for now

Kinda confusing that they have Demon Hunters and Death Knights.... kinda feels like the villains are taking over.

For Death Knight, yeah, they're pretty bad dudes. Demon Hunter is, lore wise, more complicated. Illidan was a baddie in TBC, but his role in WC3 and Frozen Throne was way more complicated, and Demon Hunters at least stand absolutely opposed to the Burning Legion.

It does seem that "hero class" is code for "redeemed villain class" though.

i had assumed hero class came from the idea that they were classes based on warcraft 3 heroes

Glad I never picked it back up. Played Vanilla with close friends when it came out, stopped playing then picked up BC. Stopped playing, picked up Wrath.

Each time I started playing again, fewer and fewer of my friends were playing, and the game became less and less about the interesting story and more and more about grinding.

i played on and off during vanilla, BC, and wrath, and started again during the second half of mists. I didn't end up accessing most of the story the first time i played because it was too much of a grind for me.

My impression of WoW is that it has never been particularly immersive compared to most competing MMOs though. I played the RTS before the MMO came out and it did a much better job of storytelling i think, and even it wasn't fantastic.

Outside of the initial leveling curve, which might not even be that far away from 1-60 in the vanilla days in terms of time, I'm pretty sure there's a lot less of a grind in wow these days. Of course, there's still a lot of things you can grind, but the content is easier to experience, unless you want to do heroics.

As someone who's played more or less continuously, I'm slightly mystified by this assessment. Every expansion they've told a tighter story, and more of it. Hellfire Peninsula and to a lesser extent the rest of Outland is the grindiest stuff left

In classic (which I leveled through plenty even if I never played it as endgame), most of the world was pretty disconnected. It had a lot of depth and charm that's been lost, but not so much 'story'.
In TBC, you sometimes got good arcs with significant storytelling, but this only happened in a few places (Blood Elf and Dranei starting zones, a little bit in Nagrand for Horde, some in Blade's Edge and Netherstorm, a little in Shadowmoon for attunement quests)
In Wrath, the entire expansion actually told a story, and each zone tended to have a good story or two on its own.
In Cata, they made everything cinematic: each zone told a story. More true of the new zones, but the rebuilt leveling zones had this too.
In Mists, they made the idea of a zone being comprised not of x quests but of storylines explicit and the progression of the expansion was the rise and fall of Garrosh Hellscream
In Draenor, they kept the mists-era storyline system and added even heavier phasing to certain zones to tell a sweeping story with media-like pacing

It's not necessarily better. The world feels smaller, like there's less to do and less to discover, but it's not grindy. Heck, that might be part of the problem. I was more engaged when there were difficult grinds like Netherwing than in the endgame of Draenor.

I am tentatively optimistic about Legion.

Suramar is quite impressive.
I have probably several thousands worth of artifact power in reserve and I'm not sure how I want to use them, having only spent 100 so far.
