It's not even a brute force algorithm. That implies a semi intelligent solution that will get you to your goal *eventually* without doing extra steps. The last time I checked it was a level 34 Charmeleon in the area right outside Pallet Town.

my favourite was fish plays pokemon where some guy mapped a controller to his goldfish's tank and whenever the fish swam somewhere new it pressed a new button

I found a tutorial for twitch plays. If I had a way to run a thing 24/7 I'd make twitch plays smash bros with two twitch accounts, one for each player.

Your ai does not choose moves effectively, or have a good strategy for which pokemon it uses.

You also went with a Squirtle.

This means you are going to have to be overleveled by the time you get there, and it's going to be a harder battle than necessary.

Being overleveled generally makes things easier.

Anyway, I'll be impressed if you ever manage to get to the third gym leader.

I don't think I will live that long.
