So, my buddies and I really enjoy playing board games. After playing a lot of Zombies!!! and Muchkins, among several others, we found ourselves getting a little bored of trying to beat each other. It just felt repetitive and dull. So, on a whim I picked up Pandemic since it looked pretty different from most of the others, and we really loved it. Elder Sign came next, and we really fell in love with the idea of us all banding together to achieve a common goal instead of declaring winners and losers. Do you guys know of any other good ones?

I don't like cooperative games personally, but some worth looking into are Ghost Stories, Flash Point: Fire Rescue, Police Precinct and for some less conventional ones, Hanabi and Mage Knight: The Board Game. If you like traitor elements then Shadows Over Camelot and The Resistance also works. Battle Star Galactica too, but I don't like that game.

The new Pathfinder game - technically a card game, though it's neither a TCG nor CCG - is cooperative as well. I played a demo at PaizoCon and found it enjoyable, though I had a very hard time reading the text on the cards - even with my reading glasses on.

My family and I have gotten a lot of good use out of Pandemic. I'll just let Wil Wheaton explain it. Also, as he says, I really have had more fun losing this game than winning many others.

I do think it's a bit solvable, though. But I hear that there are expansions to deal with that, and to be fair we probably played 40 games of it before "solving" it. And that's still just an assumption; we haven't played it in a few months because we got addicted elsewhere.

Pathfinder in the form of a card game? Huh, that could be cool. I'll have to check it out.

It uses different decks split across "encounter areas" to determine what you have to fight against. Each player has a PC that they control, and each has one or two things they can do (find traps and hidden treasure, sling damage spells, heal and call upon the guards, swing a pointy stick - yeah, even in the card game the fighter gets screwed. ;) ). Once you've dealt with the underbosses within each encounter area, you have to then find the boss - who could be hidden in any of the encounter area decks - and take him on.

All the card sets will be based on the adventure path series. So the first release is based on Rise of the Runelords.

It was pretty fun, except for the hard-to-read cards for me. But my opinion may not be super-sharp on this one, since I was at PaizoCon at the time, so I was in an "I love you guys!" sort of mood all weekend.

Their site says it's $60 for the base game, plus add-on packs. I really want to try it out, but I doubt I can afford all that. I know it's a game that won't be widely popular and so they have to get their money from the small numbers who will buy it.... but, do you think it's worth the sticker price?

Here's a relevant thread on bgg about the pf card game, for some opinions. You could check the game's page for some discussion as well.

Well, at least in the thread dedicated to turn you away from it, but the thread raise some valid concerns. If you like Munchkin, you might find that you already disagree with some of the posters.

I don't wanna turn this into a thread about Munchkin, but man I do not like that game at all.

I actually used to really like Munchkin when I was quite a bit younger, but it's become pretty hard to enjoy

The big brother to Elder Signs. Same publisher and everything.

I really like the concept, and my buddies and I love Fantasy Flight as a company. They put a lot of thought and care into their products. But they tend to over-complicate things. Arkham Horror was a great game, but I really prefer Elder Signs since it is so much easier to pick up and play. Now, that's not to say it's easy to pick up and play, there's a lot of rules, a lot of pieces and a lot to go over before play can begin. But really, it is just better in my opinion.

No rule says you have to play Arkham Horror with all expansions. I've got all but Miskatonic and often enjoy various mix-and-match, all the way from "Classic only" to "Throw in EVERYTHING". It tends to play best with 0-2 expansions, really. It's a favorite at my house, though, whether we're doing a 30 minute game against Yig or a weekend-long slog with Atlach Nacha. Really, the biggest problem I have with it is the amount of clean-up at the end if you used expansions and intend to keep them separate.

Axis & Allies with 4-5 people is fun, though its's both competitive and cooperative.

I also REALLY liked HeroQuest when I was a kid.

I love Zombicide. It's like L4D in a board game. :)
