This is the thread for discussing World of Warcraft not for bashing it.

Currently I'm still doing the legendary cloak quest on my main,I'm on the gaining exalted with the black prince along with collecting the secrets.

As for my secondary alt, I'm working on getting the rep with cloud serpents so I can get the recipes for the jewlecraft mounts, and then I plan to gain rep with vanguard so i can get the chopper mount recipe. I used the offer to booster a character to level 90, and since my toon was 60th level, my primary professions along with first aide got boosted up to 600.

I used to play, and I really enjoyed the game for a while. But a lot has changed since then that I don't agree with, and I've found new things to take up my time.

Why is [Video] part of the thread title? I'm just curious because this is the second one of these with that in the title and no videos.

Since the whole forum is for "games," this designates it being about a Video Game. There are other tags for Board Games and the like.

I'll admit that it took me quite long to realize that video meant video games.

I'll be honest. I wanted to play this. But I realized 3 things that put me off permanantly.

1) I would mostly have to play by myself or with total randoms, many of which just sound awful. And the game seems built like borderlands but even more heavily slanted towards a lot of players you can enjoy playing with being on.

2) I like to play other games, and it's 15 per month whether or not I use that time. If I could pay for a day of time and actually get a day of time, so that I could leave and come back, that would be better.

3) There isn't a non subscription based singleplayer option.

1) If you dont have friends playing it, you make friends in game. Hence having a friends list, guild, and grouping options.

2) Yup its a subscription MMO, and thats exactly how most of them work. It'd be nifty to have some sort of get charged for the time you spend logged in but the flat rate per month doesnt really cause any issues.... Netflix is still 8 bucks a month whether you watch one epidosde of game of thrones of all of them. Hows that different?

3) If you're looking for non-subscription single player game, then you're likely not looking for an MMO.

@BH

1) Okay, I agree here. I met a lot of really awesome players this way.

2) Game of Thrones isn't on Netflix. If it was, I'd be thrilled.

3) There's actually quite a few now that are MMOs and non-subscription. Guild Wars 2 for example. Sadly, a lot of them are going for a pay-to-win system where players can purchase better gear than can be typically found in the world for an idiotic advantage.

1) Yes.

2) It was tongue in cheek and referencing conversations from elsewhere. But still, the point of the example remains.

3) Sure theres nonscription MMOs and free to play MMOs but my point was more along the lines if he hates random players and only wants to play by himself that perhaps subscription MMOs is the wrong place to be looking when it comes to games. Playing solo will let you explore the world but you're going to miss out on essentially half the game in addition to the fact that you can be solo all you want but there will still be other players out there affecting your experience and the entire world is based around those that arent playing solo. Hence Massive Multiplayer.

@bounty hunter, all completely valid.

The main difference being that I watch a couple dozen hours of netflix per week while I also play about 6 or 7 video games a week, and netflix is half the price. I don't think I could get near the use out of WOW on a monthly basis, and it would be the only video game I could play while I was playing it. And as stated on many previous occassions, I don't like the idea of slogging through a dozen hours of worthlessly bad multiplayer to find a few regular playing partners that I then have to arrange to meet on a semi regular basis in order to get any fun out of the game. When I actually try to do this offline, most of it is similar to this thread where people seem to have moved on or are too far in and unwilling to start over.

As stated, I can also go play a F2P mmo as well, and many of them are fantasy based.

For an actual discussion of WOW though, what is the story of the first game? I have some idea of what it is for each expansion, but what was the main overarching quest for the actual game World of Warcraft itself before it had expansions?

If I want to jump in and start playing, what is my main objective? How long will the game last me before I buy the first expansion? How forced are the microtransactions? Etc.

This just in: People haven't been raiding Black Temple for 5 years consecutively!

I didn't make a whole lot of friends in WoW, but I did make my most consistent one, so I guess there's that.
Still like the lore, but haven't cared a whole lot for the game. I'll probably buy the latest expansion, cap a character and give up after that, like I did with Cata and MoP. None of the classes appeal to me any longer, and I'll never be able to play with a WotLK Frost DK rotation again.

It was like ... symbolism... or something... for all my friends vanishing one by one. :(
