Visual Novels are games too right?

I've been playing this game.

Image

It's pretty great. And free. Did I mention it was free?

Download it from the game's website, here, or from Steam, here.

The average playthough is only about 4 or 5 hours long, so you don't have to take too much time out of your day for this game. And please, don't try to read any spoilers about it. It's really a game that is best experienced for the first time blind.

I cannot help but read that title as "D8ki D8ki".

Also, I cannot not look up spoilers after your opening words, though at first blush it seems like it would be up my alley. One of the Steam reviews said something about it that reminded me heavily of Pony Island.

Now if only I could ever get my computer back from the shop...

I once had an idea for a multiplayer VN where either different players are the love interest or you have 2-4 players trying to get the same girl/guy

I'd been thinking about Doki Doki Literature Club, I've heard it mentioned a few places. My experience with VNs amounts to 999. I guess you could also count Long Live the Queen. I liked both of them fairly well but they both have gameplay elements (escape room esque puzzle solving for 999, stat-raising sim for Long Live the Queen) so I don't know how I'd fare with a "Traditional" VN

Doki Doki is not really a traditional VN.

Not that that's a bad thing.

Post subject:  Re: VNs

the archetypical VN is really just a choose your own adventure book with sound and pictures

its arguably not really a game at all unless you consider getting the desired end as winning and not as losing, in which case goosebumps is also a game and idk about that. Its probably not something that suits or doesn't suit people as a medium.

but yeah doki doki is experimental

would you consider Phoenix Wright to be a visual novel

because that game is basically a visual novel with neat minigames

not an archetypical one

I freaking love 999, I liked the continued story in the others, but they were qraphically sub-par in my opinion. I like the more anime style compared to the 3d models. I loved that story though.
I am playing Doki Doki currently. I'm trying to 100% it, if there's such a thing lol.
