Nostalgia warning.
From oldest to newest:
Archon: The Light and the Dark: Classical, chess-like turn-based tactics plus an arcade. There's a modern remake.
Star control 2: RPG crossed with a space simulator plus an arcade spaceship vs spaceship shooter with a tactical "rock-paper-shotgun" element plus an arcade.
Cid Meier's Pirates: RPG plus seafaring simulatior plus naval tactical simulatior plus a fighting simulator plus a rhythm game. I'm serious.
Also, here's a fun fact: when I had a Sony-Erixon (RIP
) phone I had a Java version of the game, that was totally original (!) with some functions cut off, but some functions added (!!!). In a Java phone game !
OMG I am overruned by a nostalgia right now...
Screw iPhones and smartphones, they s..k ! I want my SE Java infrared-port beauty back right now !
Space Rangers 1&2: RPG with economical elements plus space turn-based 2-d tactics plus a large-scale strategy where you are only a single unit is a "core" of the game, and are necessary to advance to a final goal. (If you are playing on "easy", those aren't even necessary to win - your bot comrades, who are playing essentially the same game, will do it on their own.) Optimal are: arcade fights in hyperspace, text quests on planets (OFTEN WITH EXTRA FULL-SCALE GAMES WITHIN THEM !!!), and, in Space Rangers 2, RTS robot wars.
You probably haven't ever heard of Space Rangers. They are awesome. Go play them.
Spore: Arcade plus a "walker" plus two different RTS games, plus a space zen sandbox thing, plus, with addon, a game-designer simulatior and all genres within a capacity of said simulatior. I must admit that without addon more a piece of art then an actual game.
Oh, I forgot about one:
Divinity: Dragon Commander. RPG plus a large-scale risk-like strategy plus an RTS with an element of aero-shooter.
Absolutely rocks. Especially RPG part.
Which ones do you know about ?
Is there a single bad multi-genre game ?
