I was never that great a fan of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, something about them just felt like I was playing the same characters over and over. But in the past few years I've been playing ones like BlazBlue and Skullgirls. The characters feel a bit more original and fun.

Which ones are you playing?

I do love me some Super Smash Bros. Melee. It's been a long time since I played it, but I recall a match where all four of us played as Ice Climbers, it was the most chaotic scene ever, no one knew who was really winning.

I'm still waiting for my import copy of BBCP to come in hnnnnnngh why did I skimp out on shipping.

I've been playing basically every fighting game that's come out this generation, or at least attempted to, and travel to tournies semi-regularly. I'm going up to NEC in a few weeks, super hype.

Smash is still a better fighting game than skullgirls mk and igau.

In the older times it was mostly Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Mortal Kombat (2).
After that I always had some small ties with fighting games, but nothing too serious anymore.
Smash Brothers was always bought and played for the multiplayer.

This changed with Guilty Gear and later Blazblue. Really liked the style and the story.
It's for the latter reason I'm waiting with BBCP until after the story is in English. I got plenty games to play these coming 5 months fortunately.

Not a giant fan of 3-D arena, I'm partial to the 2-D style of fighting games.

ICs are amazing. When I was in college this guy with long hair who graduated a few years earlier would hang around my dorm and play Melee with us. Found out later that it was Fly Amanita, who apparently is a pro Smash player who mains ICs. No wonder he could crush us easily in 3v1 team matches...

I'll play any fighting game as long as it's not in a competitive environment.

I can see why, since there's always people who get waaaaaay too into it and just beat the crap outta casual players. But at the same time... it is a game genre specifically designed for competition. Seems a little silly to avoid any and all competitive environments.

I should really play SSB Melee some day. I only ever got to play the first one on N64, I've not had any Nintendo consoles since then, and actually have only had the one console at all...which was the Xbox360 and that things not even been plugged in for like 11 months now.

If I ever get back around to hooking it up I need to finish the Mortal Kombat game still.

I think there are various degrees of competitive.

I mean, when I get around with all my cousins, nephews, brother all other sort of relatives, it is sort of competitive, but not in a noob vs pro kinda way.

You'll see me playing with friends and relatives a lot, but I'll be nowhere near ranked matches and stuff.

I mean friends and AI only. I mean I haven't played a fighting game in a very long time, last one was brawl. Waiting for the next smash bros and I'll probbaly get it for both systems.

so when you play with your friends do you take turns losing or something

so its not too competitive?
