International Tabletop Day 2014 is a thing, and it will happen April 5th. After last year's Tabletop Day had over 3000 events happening in every continent on Earth, including Antarctica and almost outer space(!), this year should be pretty huge considering the precedent set. Geek&Sundry should have a ton more support from game companies and such, and one other advantage is that it doesn't fall on Easter Weekend this year.
So, I'll be partaking. Somehow. I have a guy that I've been ordering all my gaming stuff from since 2005 that I've never actually met. I'm pretty sure he's hosting an event (last year's was a huge day for him) so I'm thinking of doing a surprise raid on his store, provided I can get there.
How will you guys be celebrating International Tabletop Day?
I have ordered Elder Sign to play on tabletop day alongside my other games (What better way to celebrate TTday than with a new game, right?) And I have Splatter to thank for bringing both TT day and Elder Sign to my attention. Should be a fun day.
Bounty, you should see if a local club where you will be is running any public event, if you have time! I mean TT day is about celebrating the communities and ability to bring people together, so playing with randoms would still be in the spirit of it!
I'm still trying to get to the aforementioned Game store for Tabletop Day. I've already booked the weekend off like, 9 weeks in advance. I want my brother to go with me but he's so busy lately he's resigned himself to "not likely" (where he should be saying "**** you world, I'm going to play games!").
If that doesn't work out I can round up some other family members and make the trip. Those that want to go there with me to play games, can. For those that don't, they have an entire city to burn 5 or 6 hours in.
And worst case scenario, if it turns out like last year and I don't have anyone around at all, (because last year fell on Easter weekend and everyone was away with family), Geek&Sundry is hosting an all day live stream of Wil, Felicia and new and returning guests playing games and calling as many of the thousands of stores that are signing up as possible to say hi on camera.
By the way, the new episode of Tabletop that aired yesterday (wherein Wil, Felicia, her brother Ryon and Brandon "Superman Returns" Routh play the amazingly fun Fortune and Glory) is easily their best episode ever.
Guess I'll report how the event in Gjøvik went: Some 15~20 people arrived, more than usual for our board game events. More or less diverged into three groups, where one of them played that Lord of the Rings co-op card game and transitioned into Magic: the Gathering, the other bunch played Munchkin before joining us for Resistance towards the end. "My group" started out with a couple games of The Resistance: Avalon, although I sat out on the first game while reading a rulebook for something else. I lost as a loyal servant of Arthur, although I blame one of my teammates who got everyone to suspect him. Then we played two games of One Night Ultimate Werewolf. The game was honestly rather strange, but I don't think we understood it well enough to play it properly. Following that was a game of Hanabi, where we scored 20 points. Amazing as usual, although it really makes you struggle with your teammates at times. Pulled out wiz-war for the first time after that. One of the players left midways through, and it eventually ended as someone got the second victory point from killing me. I don't know what to think of the game quite yet, but I liked it more than most people I played with. Three games of The Resistance followed, with 9, 10 and 10 people respectively. I was a Minion of Mordred all three games, won each one and felt like I did a pretty good job.
Fairly decent evening overall, although sort of disappointed that people dispersed after 22:00. Rather early, imho.
I'm assuming Mown is in Europe? Cause yeah, Claptrap's post was mid afternoon on Saturday for the U.S. ... very much still Tabletop Day.
I didnt do much on the day itself, but I did a 9 hour D&D 4e session today. It was pretty awesome actually, will go more into detail when its not past sleep time.
