So, I said I would write an origin story for my vedalken 'walker from A Simple Question, as well as give him a name. So, I did.

The Naming Ceremony

Edit: made some clarifying edits regarding the ceremony and history of the church, as per Raven's suggestions.

Thanks for reading and commenting! Those are good points, and I'll try to get a revision up soon.

I apologize for my exteme slowness in reading this story, Aaarrrgh, but it was certainly worth the wait. I really enjoyed this piece -- thanks a bunch for sharing!

I find the Church of the Unknown fascinating -- and, like Raven, I am similarly enamored of the first line in their creed: “We believe that there is something worth believing in.” That's not just good writing -- it's though-provoking in the best possible way.

I like Tey'von, and I am rooting for him to find the wisdom he seeks. And, actually, I'm just as intrigued by the Namless Goddess, who displayed a remarkable amount of humility for an oldwalker -- a group not exactly known for being humble or self-effacing. I wonder if she's someone we already know, albeit by a different name?

Anyway, I thought this story was really affecting on a couple different levels. Thanks again for sharing it, Aaarrrgh!

Thanks for reading and commenting, OL!

Yeah, I was trying to figure out a way to communicate what I wanted the Church of the Unknown to be without going into deep theology. Because while I am personally deeply interested in theology, it doesn't make for very dynamic reading. So when the first line of the creed popped into my head, I felt like I had won the lottery.

I'll probably put this up for vote next week.
