So, I want to get started on my revisions for The War of the Wheel, and I'd like people's advice for how to do it. For the most part, the revisions are going to be relatively minor, focusing on the typos and simple mistakes I've made throughout. I'm debating switching around a few chapters, too, which I would love for people to weigh in on, but I'm not sure the best way to present the changes. On one hand, I could simply make the changes. This would be the simplest, but the "original" version would be lost to the Internet (I'll still have my copy.) Another option is to simply post both versions of each chapter, one listed "original," the other listed "revised." Alternatively, I could just make the changes, but post a Changelog at the end. Other options include posting the new chapters to the end, essentially starting over, or creating an entirely new thread, although personally I dislike these last two options. So, what do people think? |

I think having a changelog is for the best, because then we should be able to kind of skim through and see how large the changes may or may not be. Whether you directly edit the original or make new posts (whether to a new thread or at the end of the old thread), I don't think matters as much. |

Okay, so it sounds as though people are mostly suggesting changing the original, and documenting the changes in a changelog at the end. That works for me. I'll start in on this soon, hopefully today after I do a little bit of reading around here. Another question I want to pose is one of chapter order. I'm very seriously considering switching Chapter One and Chapter Two around. As it stands now, Chapter One is Denner's introduction to the story, and Chapter Two is Antine's. Considering where the story ends up going, and the role these two eventually play, I think it would be thematically stronger to lead off with Antine (Well, technically I'm leading off with Daneera in the Prologue, but...) So what would people think if I made Antine's first chapter into Chapter One, and moved Denner's to Chapter two? Also, Keeper suggested the possibility of moving Conscripts Conclave, currently chapter 17, up to the beginning of Part 2, making it chapter 14 instead. This would move Sifting Through Ashes from chapter 14 to 15, move Coronation Pyre from 15 to 16, and move A Place to Crash from 16 to 17. The argument here is that by breaking away from the main group to the villains at this point, it would allow an emotional break after the events of chapter 13 (To Set The World On Fire) as well as allow us to stay focused on the Arbagoth Eight from chapter 15 straight through chapter 20. So, what do people think about moving around these two chapters? |

It seems like the primary advantage of leading with Denner is that it establishes our antagonists right off the bat. But I'm inclined to agree with you that the larger arc largely mirror's Antine's progression, and I think leading with him has a nice symmetry to it. |
