As the development lead for Jakkard I feel if anyone is going to jump the gun on this, it should be me. So, minutes after Wizards revealed their plans for Magic Origins seems like exactly the right time for me to suggest our own answer to the proposal: an anthology of stories that tell the origins of some of our major characters. We've talked before about who our flagship characters are and I think maybe this would be the place to explore that in detail. We have a number of ascension stories already, so this would be a matter I think of selecting which ones we want to really represent the project, and who else deserves an origin story that has yet to be written.

If there's interest I'll add this to the Anthology Project List but I wanted to post a thread here for maximum visibility and because I'm a freaking drama queen basically.

Interesting idea. I've spelled out the ascension stories for, let me think, Denner, Daneera, Kahr, Penelophine, and Donagut, but none of them appear in actual stories. It might be an interesting project.

This is a good excuse for me to finally get the Planeswalker list in the archive up to date >_> Unless someone else wants to.

We should also tally up the number of origin stories we have already.

War of the Wheel is Antine's for example. We should include the whole novel in this anthology, clearly :P

Well, we have Alessa directly telling her origin in "Gifts" so... I mean, feel free to toss it in there.
Similarly, the Second portion of "Legacies" has Raef's, but that would be problematic.
Loss does a job of Zhiran showing his origin to Bartholt.

My current project is the origin story for a new 'walker, so if that ever gets done we could add it.

I know how Vasilias ascended, but I don't want to work on that until other stuff gets done.

Raleris, on the other hand, I've never really thought about. Keeper can handle that one if zie wants

(oh my god you used my goofy pronouns aaaa @_@)

Yeah Raleris popped into my head while I was typing this up as a potential person but then I was like... do we really need a Raleris origin story? Does it make sense to have one? I've never thought about it either.

I'm excited to see your new 'walker though.

Loss and Gifts would both fit well, yeah.

Hmm... I think the Eightfold Lotus might cover both Kimberley and Jinsen, but only like... indirectly. Because the story is being told within the story. Maybe that's a little too anecdotal?

Aloise hasn't talked much about her ascension - for good reason, probably. Not... exactly warm-fuzzy material. (OMG I NEED TO PM OL NOW)

Fisco though... Fisco. Fisco! Yeeeesssss. Fisco. I think I can write Fisco's ascension story and, frankly, I think it could be really good to see firsthand the sort of situation he comes from, and was put in. Ahaha, oh man. I'm going to make everyone SO SAD.

This is addictive. I see why Raven does it.

Clade could also be interesting. Oh, Sava already has one! So there's that. And lastly, Pendulum! I don't think I'll do one for him, because it's pretty likely that it wouldn't make any sense. Then again, Barinellos wrote a story from the perspective of a sightless, earless ooze planeswalker so I'm not sure that's really an excuse.

Yeah, and you haven't even heard Raiker's ascention story. Ooohhh, man. That's a doozy. Ever wonder why he writes tragic poetry? Oh, brother.

For my characters, we have: Advent of a Planeswalker (Mari), The Planeswalker's Daughter (Ellia), Before The Dawn/The World At Dawn (Larasa and Morgan, take your pick of story), Homecoming or Corrosion for Illarion, Night Voices (Amah), Morgan's Notes: Quiet Lia (Lia Xin)... Yeesh, I have a lot of characters.

I kind of would love to include The Planeswalker's Daughter in this because it's not an ascension story but it is absolutely an origin story for The Endbringer. The Eightfold Lotus would be great--a double origin story. Night Voices would be great... we have a lot of good ones to choose from actually.

Oh, who was it that wrote the story about a viashino kid ascending and like immediately getting killed? That was sad and awful and I think we should include it for sure! :D

Heh, we have a huge number of characters now :P We can probably start brutally murdering them soon I think

I wrote that. Um, I'm not sure where it got off to? Hm. Cathar's are kind of jerks.

At least, most of the Cathar's I write about are jerks.

I guess there was that one, with the Zombie dragon, but yeah. Jerks.

Interestingly, Ruwin's story about the Viashino 'walker is indirectly responsible for War of the Wheel.

It's true!

Wait, what?

*Thinks about it...*

OH MY GOD IT IS.

Welp. I think it's ACTUALLY safe to say that this is all Eristi's fault. >:[

Yeah, because I wrote that story, then Raven got inspired to write the story with Eristi (that he so cleverly MST3K'd recently), which was the fist story with Syl and Chardis and the Amphiseum, which got the rest of everything moving out the gates...

Man. Life is weird. I need some crackers.

EDIT: Oh, hey, there it is!

Pretty much this. After Ruwin posted that story, Yxoque made an off-handed remark that it would be cool to see more planeswalker death stories. So, I conceived of "Dead Man 'Walking," which was the first time I used the Dual-Walkers after "Planes." Which consequently got me thinking...

And we all know how dangerous THAT is...

I should also note that Nasperge ascended when a woodworker attacked him with his tools after a particularly negative Aubedore reading. I know that seems pretty mundane, but there was more to those tools than meets the eye.
