Oh my, this was a fun read, and what an interesting character as well! The first part of the story was very well done - I was impressed by how deep the lore surrounding Djinn was. I felt like I was reading an old arabian fairy tale.

As the story progressed, and we began to see more of Amah's personality, I at first thought to compare her to Aloise, but then I realized she was far too... reckless. Amah seeks to specifically - and spitefully - seek out knowledge that is forbidden to her, or to everyone in general. While they have similar GOALS (the spread of knowledge freely), Amah lacks caution. It's an interesting sort of dynamic that would be cool to explore, perhaps.

Anyway, you have crafted a very telling narrative, and created a very compelling character. I enjoy how the story ends with her ascension, and her clinical analysis of that. All in all, a very rich and intriguing character. I wonder, actually, how she would interact with Pendulum... hmm...

Thanks for posting, Tevish! :)

Oooh, this was good! I really like who you immersed us in the culture. Like Ruwin noted, it does feel like reading something from 1001 Nights. Amah isn't very nice, is she?

It will be interesting to see where this goes, but I think Amah is pretty interesting, and I look forward to seeing some of her misadventures...and hopefully some degree of maturation!

I know I still haven't gotten to The World at Dawn, but I think I'm going to end up putting this ahead of that on the list.
And I feel a little bad about not having gotten to you about the other first.

Oh, Tevish, this is really good.

I like Ruwin's comparison. Amah is kind of like Aloise Unchained. (Which, coincidentally, was the name of my short-lived grunge band.) When she thinks of Aziz as her "most favorite acquaintance," it just breaks my heart a little bit. That's maybe the cleverest way imaginable of saying that someone has no friends.

I'll be very interested to follow this character.
