This is something that I have thought about doing in the past, but it's always been a task that has loomed horribly as an undertaking. Honestly, I have a lot of other things that I have to finish off and other projects I've deferred, but this is one I keep coming back to, no matter how daunting it prowls on the horizon. So, I'm opening up to see how much interest there might be, as well as a way to comb for some ideas from others. There are, of course, a few problems in this, though one is almost an advantage in the same way. 1) This is a canon event. Which means that to approach this is seriously dangerous territory, but luckily... 2) The only information we have is pre-revision anyways, which means that virtually everything is nearly quantumly unstable in the first place. 3) While still being a canon event, it's freaking pre-history... literally. The chances that anything I do being contradicted in the modern storyline, or any part of it even being GLANCED at, are astronomical. However, that doesn't mean I don't need to approach this in a wanton manner... so... 4) I have to construct what I actually can touch in the lore. I don't think there is anybody alive that hasn't worked for Wizards that knows as much about the Elder Dragon War as I do, but there's more to it than that since this is an event that rippled down through the millenia. If I do this... I'm not just setting the stage for the War, I'm basically defining a snapshot of the Multiverse that would be nearly utterly alien to us, and that is as exciting as it is worrisome.
Anyways, I will give you this little tidbit in my plans.
Spoiler
Equilor will be featured Pre-Ascension Nicol Bolas will likely be the viewpoint character.
Anyways, interested to see what people's reaction will be.

Oh wow. Yeah, this is something I've been wondering if someone would finally decide to pounce on. It's kind of the big, looming storyline event that we know happened but that we aren't likely to revisit in canon, alongside the Mirage War. (I feel like everything else, like the Fall of Vithia, is kinda second-tier compared to the importance of those two untold stories.)
Where is the majority of the information on the Elder Dragon War contained? I know information is sprinkled all over the place... Some planes probably wouldn't have even existed back then, huh? Man. Yeah, this would be a pretty alien multiverse.
I definitely think if anyone is going to be able to pull it off, you will.
If memory serves, I believe it was the very idea of the Elder Dragon wars that first brought me over to the flavor boards from YMTC in the first place a little over a year ago. Needless to say, therefore, I am very interested to see what you can come up with for it.

Mostly in the Armada comics, though there are maybe half a dozen small mentions in other places. In addition, I'm going to take a long hard look at the way the pre-rev universe worked just to get a better grasp of how everything worked before.
Hopefully I'll be able to go throw together an outline, but I will definitely need a partner to second eye everything.

In addition, I think the best way to come up with this ancient multiverse is to actually run a bit of a contest where people design planar vignettes that I can use. Just conceptual aspects of worlds ruled by dragons, nothing complex, but still, I'm going to need at least roughly a dozen of them.

This is a very, very good idea. Shall we have prizes other than inclusion in the narrative?
Well, the yield to work ratio is pretty minimal to start with. I mean, I'm basically only asking for a planar pitch, not creating a ton of details. Maybe 2 paragraphs tops.
I've done a ton of original material research now into the way Garfield's original multiverse works, and I think that's given me some excellent details for the structure of the ancient verse. So far, I'm planning on utilizing, ultimately 4 canon planes, but the span the Elder Dragon Empire had means I am going to need a lot more.

So, though it is still several weeks away, the end of Raven's saga is on the horizon. Now, I can't swear to be able to match the insane ouput of that crazy bastard, but I feel like having a serial is just kind of something that we should try to continue on.
And in that regards, I am resurrecting this project, though it is still in the construction phases obviously... but aside from that, I also make no promises given my recent emotional problems. Still, this might be a good thing for me to try and take on again.
HOWEVER, this all goes back to that original thing that was talked about above here. That being I need raw resources to utilize. Either Elder Dragons or Planes to use for background involvement.
I still have a pretty solid idea of what I want to do with it, but I could use some more principle players and locations. So, I'll just turn you guys loose and see what trickles in.

My dinosaur plane pitch in the Oceanic Bubbles is still up for grabs.
Otherwise, DOOOOO IIIIIT!
It doesn't have to be a novel. It can be written as a historical account by one of the survivors. Chromium Rhuel recounting it to Ravidel. Or Arcades Sabboth since there's no canon information on his personality.
Spoiler
I wish Bolas weren't the only remaining survivor, because Magic now has NOBODY who can effectively oppose him or the Eldrazi... but of course you can't touch that.

One of the plot points of Starstill is that the plane is ruled and got screwed up by two surviving Lesser Elders. That might be something worth fiddling with.
I haven't checked on the project in like two months now though >_> so I have no idea what the status is.
I still like the idea of a character/plane contest for this actually.
Also, when on the timeline does this fall in relationship to the Endbringer War?

waaaaaaaay before. Bolas is 25,000 years old after all. It's the furthest back event we have.

Yeah, it really has been nuts the last several months, hasn't it?
Anyway, this is something I would be interested in helping with in at least a limited capacity, though it will be a while before I can contribute much of anything, between a busy couple of weeks at work and my own stuff. But yeah, I can probably come up with some stuff for you eventually.

It honestly would help if we had a sort of secondary viewpoint that we can drop into on any week that I don't feel I can get to the meat of the conflict, if you're interested in developing a side project to run next to it. Otherwise, any various background filler would help too.
As it is, I have the first story and portions of the cosmology and players in place. I am going to continue with the plan to use Nicol Bolas as a centerpiece to this, but I have a position for Palladia Mors as well and have been considered finding some slot to utilize Chromium Rheull as a more moderate voice. With everything in the shape it is, I don't think I can find an overt presence for Arcades Sabboth and Vaevictus Asmodi though.

Chromium is kinda tricky because of his later appearances, no?
Not this far back. I mean, this is so far back in canon that there's not much issue with conflicting with any known information.

Alright, so even more than background material, what I'd like right now is a sounding board, so whoever doesn't mind some spoiler type materials and is free, sound off so I can sound on you.

I might volunteer but I don't understand the question.

I need someone to use to let my ideas out on and get opinions on where I want to take things.
